Chapter 3. OBJECTIVES, RULES AND ORGANIZATION OF IAN DONALD SCHOOL– Designate Continuous Medical Education(CME) credit if available.– Faculty/Speakers:• Approximately 5-6 invited speakers(each speaker 3-4 topics).• 5-10 local speakers (each speaker1-2 topics).– Topics:• Group presentations based on subjects.• Mix invited and local speakers.• Must cover obstetrical and gyne cologicaltopics (suggested ratio: 70 %obstetrics and 30% gynecology).• Specialized courses may be dedicatedentirely to the specific topic:e.g. advanced fetal echocardiographycourse.– Presentations:• 20-30 minutes in duration.• Presentations should be effectivelydelivered strictly within allocatedtime.• As a general guideline allow 1 minuteper slide.• Allow 5-10 minutes discussion aftereach topic.• Allow 15-30 minutes discussion atthe end <strong>of</strong> specific session.– Suggestion for presentation structure:• <strong>Ian</strong> <strong>Donald</strong> <strong>School</strong> emblem on thefirst slide with the name <strong>of</strong> the respective<strong>Ian</strong> <strong>Donald</strong> <strong>School</strong>.• Learning objectives at the beginning<strong>of</strong> each presentation.• Conclusions at the end <strong>of</strong> each presentation.• Appropriate credit should be clearlydisplayed for borrowed educationalcontent (ultrasound pictures, researchresults).• Patient names, medical record numbersand other identifications shouldnot be presented without explicitpatients consent. Patient privacyshould be protected at all times.– Moderators:• Introduce speakers.• Keep schedule on time.• Coordinate discussion.• Stimulate discussion.– Debate:• Recommend one or two debates oncontroversial topics.• Moderator will coordinate debate(2 speakers: YES or NO position onchosen subject).• 10 minutes each speaker.• 3 minutes rebuttal.• 15 minutes questions from audience.– Educational material:• CD/DVD with all presentations.• One year subscription to the YellowJournal.• <strong>Ian</strong> <strong>Donald</strong> Textbook <strong>of</strong>fered.– Anonymous course evaluation (seeAttachment 2):• Course content.• Speakers.• Facility.• Course evaluations should be presentedto all school directors and allfaculty participating in particularcourse.35
