For example, Dr. ANTSAKLIShas been the General Secretary and amember of the Hellenic Society of Obstetricsand Gynecology for several years.He also holds membership and variousboard positions with the Hellenic Societyof Pe rinatal Medicine (President forseveral years), the Hellenic Society ofPrenatal Diagnosis and Fetal Therapy(Founder and President), the HellenicSociety of Ultrasound in Obstetrics andGynecology (Founder and President since1992), the Hellenic Society of MaternalFetal Medicine (Member of the ExecutiveBoard), and the Hellenic Societyof Medical Studies (Member of the ExecutiveBoard). Dr. ANTSAKLIS has participatedin several committees of the HellenicHealth Council of Perinatal Medicinesince 1990 and on Ultrasound in Obstetricssince 1995. He is member of theEditorial Board of several Greek MedicalJournals. He is Vice President and memberof the Scientific Committee of theWorld Association of Perinatal Medicine.Member of the Board of the InternationalSociety: «The Fetus as a Patient». Heis a member of the «Fetoscopy WorkingGroup». Dr. ANTSAKLIS has also been amember of the expert advisory Panel onMaternal and Perinatal Health and ObstetricsFIGO since 1997. He was Presidentelect of the European Association of PerinatalMedicine (2002-2004), President ofthe 19 th European Congress of PerinatalMedicine, Athens, Oct. 2004 and Presidentof EAPM for 2004-2006 and PastPresident for 2006-2008. He is memberof the International Academy of PerinatalMedicine, Vice President of the MediterraneanUnion on Ob/Gyn, Co-editor ofthe Donald School Journal of Ultrasoundin Ob/Gyn, and editor of the Greek journals«Perinatal Medicine and Neonatology»and «Ultrasonography».Professional and research interestsDr. ANTSAKLIS organized several Nationaland International Conferences and Meetingson Prenatal Diagnosis. His contributionto Perinatal Medicine was great bothin Greece and worldwide. He is a permanentmember of the organization of PrenatalDiagnosis of Hereditary Hemoglobinopathies.Dr. ANTSAKLIS has supervisedPhD thesis, research projects on differentsubjects and acted as referee for otherPhD thesis. Hawaii/USABranchDirector: Dr. Ivica Zalud | Established: Year 2005Secretary: Dr. Raydeen BusseThe Ian Donald Inter-University School of Medical Ultrasound Hawaii was establishedin 2005 during the first ultrasound conference presented by the Straub Foundation,Hawaii Pacific Health and Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu,Hawaii. For this conference, a panel of three invited faculty guest (Dr. KURJAK,Dr. CHERVENAK and Dr. PLATT) along with 6 local faculty members from the University ofHawaii’s John A. Burns School of Medicine, Department of OB/GYN and Women’sHealth served as lecturers. This highly attended conference exposed the need and interestfor exceptional quality education in OB/GYN ultrasound. Participants were askedto evaluate this conference. Over 140 of them gave it outstanding marks and asked forsuch a conference to be held here bi-annually. The next conference was held in 2007and was jointly organized by John A Burns School of Medicine and Ian Donald SchoolHawaii with full Continuous Medical Education (CME) accreditation. This type of educationin the United States requires satisfying very strict rules that must be approvedby the ACCME at the federal level. During the three-day conference, four invited facultyguest (Dr. CHERVENAK, Dr. KURJAK, Dr. PLATT and Dr. POOH) and 10 local faculty membersfrom the John A. Burns School of Medicine discussed cutting edge OB/GYN ultrasoundas well as practical clinical applications. One hundred and fifty participants,mostly from Hawaii but also from the US mainland, Europe, Japan and Australia, evaluatedand gave the faculty panel and the conference high marks for the educationalexperience it provided. Preparations are underway for the third conference to be heldin May 2009.The Hawaii Branch of the Ian Donald Family has ambitious plans to be a hub for excellencein ultrasound education, research and clinical application of OB/GYN ultrasoundin the Pacific region. Hawaii would like to take advantage of its unique positionas the cross roads between East and West and serve as a place where advances in medicalultrasound would connect physicians and other health care providers from theUnited States, the Pacific and Asian nations for betterment of women’s health. It is ourhope that Hawaii’s rich history, unspoiled natural beauty, high quality care in OB/GYNand spirit of Aloha would blend the best of what the Ian Donald School can offer.Honolulu.80
