This Charity has beenworking on the prevention of perinatal handicap for more than 50 years and had createdthe first French fetal medicine unit led by Fernand Daffos. This unit was then mergedwith another unit that was led by YVES DUMEZ, another fetal medicine pioneer inthis country, thus creating one of the largest fetal medicine units in Europe at the RenéDescartes University. It offers all prenatal diagnostic and therapeutic facilities including3D and 4D ultrasound, and fetal MRI, all invasive procedures including fetal endoscopicsurgery. This is the national referral center for antenatal management ofcongenital diaphragmatic hernia and for complicated monochorionic pregnancies.René Descartes University annually offers courses in Prenatal Diagnosis and Fetal Medicineincluding two 3-week courses of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology andFetal Medicine which is generally attended by 200 participants. More than 50 lecturerscover all aspects of obstetrics and gynecological ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis andfetal therapy. A degree is obtained after one (ultrasound screening) to 2 years (prenataldiagnosis and fetal medicine) of practical training in which credited units (CME) arerecognized worldwide. This training is also endorsed by the Fetal Medicine Foundationin London to access the Fetal Medicine Diploma of the FMF.L’Ecole Parisienne d’Echographie is therefore the continuous education element of thistertiary referral and teaching center. Training is organized around a lecture theatre and6 ultrasound rooms. We are developing a powerful and interactive teaching programonline (http://ecole.echographie-online.com/dokeos, login: demo, password: demo) Teachingis organized in 3 different ways:1. Fellowship within the René Descartes Master of prenatal diagnosis and fetal medicine.2. Online registration and theoretical course with tutorials and selected hands-onsessions according to the needs of the individual or trainee.3. Long (6 months to one year) internship or short tutorials (2 weeks to one month)with theoretical and practical teaching within the unit. Customized 3D and 4D theoreticaland practical training that are organized over a weekend 4 times a year.In addition to ultrasound/prenatal diagnosis training, we provide continuous qualityassessment programs including the London FMF first trimester QA program and alsosecond and third trimester ultrasound and Doppler practice.The program is supervised by Prof. YVES VILLE, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology,head of the department and director of the ultrasound and fetal medicine curriculum.The director of ultrasound training is Dr. JEAN-PHILIPPE BAUD.
