Step one: Customisation• expand/reduce the table to the number of investment objectives for thescoping;• on a separate row enter each investment’s objectives description;• clear all the rows of CSF’s that don’t apply;• reword any remaining CSF’s to the standard being used by the project;• use the blank CSF rows for the project’s additional CSF’s, expanding thetable if necessary; and• remove all remaining blank CSF rows.Step two: Long list options• Check the long list options and decide how many tables are required;• duplicate the table as and if necessary;• arrange the options in the tables in the best order for comparison; and• enter each option’s description in the option description row.Step three: Investment objectives• starting at the first investment objective for each option in turn enter a tick inthe option’s column if it delivers the objective; and• repeat the exercise for the subsequent rows of investment objectives.N.B. If any option only part meets an objective consider splitting the objective.Alternatively for significant objectives rate the scores as high, medium and lowinstead of a simple tick.Step four: Critical success factors• starting at the first critical success factor for each option in turn enter a scoreof high, medium or low in the option’s column based on how well it meetsthe CSF; and• repeat the exercise for the subsequent rows of CSF’s.N.B. For projects with few options and/or obvious scoping selection the tick orblank can be used for the scoring.Step five: Summary• for each option use its column to decide whether to reject/shortlist it; and• if there are insufficient SLO’s check each rejected option and considermarking it for rework.N.B.
