DON-BP-001Don Field Decommissioning Programme5.4 Drill CuttingsNo action will take place because over the years the cuttings have dispersed and theseabed will continue to recover as the cuttings continue to disperse. During 2006 divingactivities, no evidence was found of a discernable cutting pile.The recommendation to take no action on the Don Field cuttings is sensible given thecurrent distribution of cuttings at the field, estimated to be 1763m 3spread over47,745m 2 . The effect of long-term persistence of cuttings on the seabed is considered tobe minimal [2.4]. Left undisturbed, the cuttings will continue to naturally erode.Refer to Section 8 for further details.6 Interested Party ConsultationsInformal consultation has been undertaken with a range of interested parties, includingthe Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF). In addition, as required under Section 29 ofthe Petroleum Act 1998 [2.5], a period of statutory consultation has also beenundertaken.Consultation will continue with all relevant interested parties as the decommissioning ofthe Don Field progresses.7 CostsThe overall total cost for the Don Field Decommissioning Programme is expected to bein the order of £150 million. This cost is expressed in 2009 values and includesallowances for engineering, project management and support costs.8 Indicative ScheduleThe indicative schedule for decommissioning the Don Field, as shown in Figure 2.2, hasbeen developed taking into consideration the following: An appropriate timescale for regulatory approvals in accordance with the DECCGuidelines [2.6] The expected duration of decommissioning activities and the seasonal nature of thedecommissioning and abandonment work Achieving the most efficient and cost effective way of executing thedecommissioning activity, with the possibility taking advantage of opportunities for‘bundling’ with similar work in other projectsExecutive Summary2-8 May 2011
