DON-BP-001Don Field Decommissioning ProgrammeFigure 3.3 Wind Rose for Don FieldWave heights vary with season and wind speeds. Monthly mean significant waveheights are between 3.0 and 4.0m in winter (November to March), and between 1.5 and2.0m in summer (June to August). Maximum wave heights during storms may reachbetween 25 and 30m. Significant wave heights of 2m are exceeded for 75% of the year.3.3 Sea TemperatureSea surface temperature ranges from 7.5°C in winter to 13.5°C in summer, whereastemperatures at the seabed are relatively constant throughout the year atbetween 7 and 8°C.3.4 CurrentsAs in most areas of the North Sea, surface currents are normally aligned with the windand are about 3% of wind speed. At depth, the currents are dominated by the flow ofwater to the north of Shetland and into the North Sea, along with a weak tidal factor.Surface water speeds in this area of the North Sea are generally less than 0.8m/s andresidual water movement at the sea surface is generally south-easterly.Background Information3-4 May 2011
