A Dream RealizedNovember 14, 2014, was a red-letter day in WBI history. On that day, Wayne Brothers beganthe process of moving the personal belongings of 50 office-based employees, in addition to toolsand shop equipment, from the 21,000 square-foot space leased at the Ervin Woods’ location. AssetManager Alan Goodman worked with Meredith Dorton, Amanda Roberts, Mike Henrickson, and JerryLambert to plan the move and organize the many individual tasks involved. Computers needed tobe wrapped to protect fragile screens, mail forwarded to the new address, utilities disconnected, andrented office trailers and trash dumpsters removed from the old office location. Furniture and otheritems not needed at the new site were made available to employees and to Habitat for Humanity. The moving team gave special thanks to Josh Akers and Paulie Estrada for providing much-neededlabor.Daniel Wayne, Senior Project Manager and Director of Technology, was given the privilege ofdesigning and building the new office building, which he described as being “state-of-the-art.” Hesees the erection of the attractive main building as a milestone in the history of the company inwhich he and older brother Isaiah play important roles. “A big part of how the company survived itsstartup and was successful,” he says, “is due to the values that were instilled in my father and uncleby my grandparents, Claude and Juanita.” “They taught them integrity, respect and work ethics, andalso taught their children that to be successful in life, you have to work hard for nobody’s going tohand anything to you.” Although Daniel embraces the technological advances that will be importantin shaping WBI’s future, he also looks at the past, expressing his pride and gratitude that thosestrong mountain roots and values were taught to him, his siblings and cousins. The building itself is a testimony to careful planning. At present, company offices share spacewith a modern warehouse space. Large windows bring both light and the adjacent countrysideinto the building, which is decorated in “construction modern,” highlighted by clean lines, theretooled company logo, and formwork and equipment used as decoration. The present offices andconference areas are highly functional and attractive, but are designed to be easily moved. Plans forthe future involve the construction of a more permanent office building on a nearby hill, overlookingthe present Headquarters building. Walls, windows, and furnishings in the present building can beeasily removed and re-installed in a future building in years to come. When such a move occurs, theentire building will be available for use as a warehouse by the growing firm.At present, Warehouse Supervisor Josh McKnight, is working hard to develop an inventorycontrol system using bar codes, so that everything can be scanned into a master inventory.
