in Gastonia, North Carolina. Each of the four levels was about100,000 square feet in size. Levels one and four involvedconventionally reinforced concrete slabs, while levels two andthree were post-tensioned concrete slabs. The work includedcast–in-place walls, columns and slabs. The following year, WBIcrews began work on the Patewood Medical Office Buildingin Greenville, South Carolina, a 150,000 square foot projectconsisting of a one-story cast-in-place concrete structure, witha five-story structural steel frame sitting atop the basementlevel. Another Patewood project began in December 2005, withWBI responsible for a 130,000 square foot tower addition; workon the Patewood Patient Tower included pouring foundations;placing slab on grade; elevated slab-on-metal deck; and cast-inplacewall construction.After extensive planning and preparation, Wayne Brothersbegan concrete construction on the Village at South Park, aresidential project in Charlotte, in December 2005. The turnkeyconcrete package encompassed a nine-story, 450,000 squarefoot cast-in-place mixed-use structure. Company responsibilitiesincluded layout, grading and shoring, pouring foundations, walls,formwork, and floor slabs. One year later, in December 2005,the company began work on the National Gypsum wallboardmanufacturing facility in Mt. Holly, North Carolina. The projectscope ranged from layout, excavation, stone base, foundationsand pits, to piers, columns, walls, trenches, and placing slab-ongrade.Although the projects described above were notable,they were only preparation for the unique demands of theWindshear Wind Test Tunnel at Concord, North Carolina, andthe 11-story condominium project known as Ashton Southendin Charlotte. The Windshear Windtest Tunnel is a state-of-theart facility offering engineers the opportunity to test race carsunder real race conditions, and was highly anticipated by theCentral Piedmont CommunityCollege Parking DeckOn Saturday, November 7, 2009, WayneBrothers, Inc. made the largest singleconcrete placement to date in the company’s26 year history. The pour consisted of morethan 3,500 cubic yards of 4,000 psi selfconsolidatingconcrete, and 320 tons ofreinforcing steel. Concrete Supply Company,Inc. provided the self consolidating concretefor the foundation, and utilized 47 ready mixtrucks and 3 plants for a total of 450 truckloads of concrete to support the pour!A New51
