Although company officials relished the Awards, which recognized the hard work andinnovation of the WBI technology team, they were equally proud of the successful completionof a complex project in the heart of Charlotte, requiring a host of problems to be solved byplanners and field personnel. BIM Manager Barker said that many of the processes that weredeveloped and tested on the BB&T Project were going to be used on other current companyprojects with great effectiveness.The Turn Around ContinuesIn addition to projects mentioned above, Shannon Sapp, in charge of BusinessDevelopment, reported that the first half of 2011 had brought a variety of important newprojects in many different markets. During the first quarter, WBI was awarded a contract inthe manufacturing market with NYPRO Phase 2 Expansion in Brevard, North Carolina; in thewood and paper industry with Weyerhaeuser in Plymouth, North Carolina, performing sitework and constructing foundations for new energy-efficient kilns; in the public sector, carryingout stream restoration for the City of Kannapolis; and three projects in the bio-science market,including an old tobacco warehouse restoration in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for WexfordScience and Technology; both site work and concrete work for Lab Corporation in Burlington,North Carolina; and a greenhouse project for Bayer Crop Sciences in the Research TrianglePark.Efforts of the Civil and Infrastructure Group, under Manager Jim Rhodes, to increase itsshare of company revenues, were rewarded in the second quarter of 2011, with three projects atvarious North Carolina compressor stations. Concrete contracts were strong, with many of theprojects involving returns to familiar locations and clients. In the Mission Critical market, crewswere scheduled to return to confidential data centers in North Carolina and South Carolina. Inthe heavy industrial market, previous successes helped secure contracts at the Siemens EnergyExpansion in Charlotte, and the new Caterpillar Plant in Winston-Salem. Healthcare-relatedawards continued to be made, including work on the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’sCancer Center’s vertical expansion, and a Parking Deck at Wesley Long Community Hospitalin Greensboro, North Carolina. In the nuclear area, a contract was awarded for a Nuclear OfficeBuilding at VC Summer in Jenkinsville, South Carolina. In the higher education area, a complexproject at Fayetteville State University, erecting a Science & Technology Building, was awardedto WBI, as was UNC-Charlotte’s 49ers Football Stadium.68 EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS
