Properly-trained employees not only gain advancement opportunities and a rich senseof accomplishment, but have fewer accidents and produce more professional results for WBIclients. The program grew to the point that Wayne Brothers had a full-time Training Instructor,Jim Lunsford, and a bi-lingual craft/supervisory training instructor, Milton Chicas. The companycontinued to work closely with AGC, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, and the NorthCarolina Department of Labor. On November 4, 2008, the NC Department of Labor recognizedWayne Brothers as the first privately-owned construction company to certify apprentices asMaster Craftsmen, the highest training level. Many people consider completion of the four yearMaster Craftsmen program to be the equivalent of a Bachelor’s Degree.The company also established a Supervisory Training Program - College Option, inpartnership with the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC), CAGC, and the NorthCarolina Department of Labor (NC DOL). Daniel Wayne and Rick Adsit were the firstemployees to complete the innovative 68 semester hour degree program, earning 15 hoursof credit for completion of the N.C. Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship Program at WBI,15 hours of course work utilizing the Projects/SUPERVISION curriculum created by CAGC,cooperative education coursework (4 semester hours), and 34 semester hours earned inclasses at RCCC.The Supervisory Training Program was also offered with a non-college option. It wasstructured as an in-house supervisory level training program designed to prepare fieldsuperintendents.
