Building on theCHAPTER SIXFor Shannon Sapp, who guides the Business Development group, the success of WBI canbe explained in part by the quality and dedication of everyone involved in the company, fromthe field personnel to the Executive Team. He feels that the company has, from its inception, tried to remain true to its guiding principles. First, to succeed you have to deliver value toyour customers through your services. Second, you need to “do it right,” for if you do soconsistently, you assure yourself of satisfied customers and repeat business. Third, you mustfind a way to be open to innovation without giving up the traditional values that have keptyour doors open through the years.CHAPTERMany other employees also point to the feeling of family that permeates throughoutthe company, arising from the shared accomplishments of difficult tasks done well and timespent together at shared meals and annual picnics. They also remarked with deep convictionthat WBI executives genuinely care about their health and safety, and want to see themsucceed. All of those factors, together with a rising tide of public confidence lifting the nationaleconomy, resulted in the company meeting – then surpassing – its pre-recession revenue andpersonnel levels. As calendar year 2012 began, work was progressing on major projects, suchas the Caterpillar plant in Winston-Salem, the Facebook buildings, and the expansion of theWake Forest Baptist Hospital Cancer Center. The Cancer Center expansion presented both challenges and opportunities for theWBI crews. The overall project involved the addition of seven floors to the existing fivestoryCancer Center, with WBI’s scope of work including more than 230,000 square feetof slab-on-metal deck; 42,000 square feet of 1.5 inch topping slab; interior and exteriorconcrete curbs, housekeeping pads, concrete paving; curb and gutter; asphalt paving andsidewalks.
