He demonstratedhis commitment by hanging a banner on a company trailer parked on the site that read“FIRST PITCH SPRING OF 1995” and gave the date of the scheduled first home game for theKannapolis team. The project was completed by its scheduled date.Tom Dayvault vividly remembers, however, the first pitch in Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.“When the trees were cut and the playing field was leveled, Keith and I measured to findwhere home plate would be and then we measured the pitcher’s mound.” After making suretheir measurements were correct, according to Dayvault’s account in a 2008 speech, “we gotbats, gloves, baseballs and today the truth is revealed – Daniel Wayne threw the first pitch.”From Dayvault’s perspective, that action was typical of Keith Wayne’s vision for the future,recognizing the value of the stadium for the Kannapolis area, and making his son – now avaluable part of WBI – a part of its history.Kannapolis Intimidators StadiumOn Solid37
