SEWING BASICS WEEK<br />

Students will learn how to read <strong>and</strong> underst<strong>and</strong> patterns, select<br />

fabric <strong>and</strong> notions, use a sewing machine, insert zippers, <strong>and</strong> create<br />

drawstring <strong>and</strong> elastic casings. Projects will include a decorative<br />

pillow, fleece pullover <strong>and</strong> a free choice project. Sewing machines<br />

are provided, however, it is beneficial to learn on your own<br />

machine. Small class size with lots of individual instruction. This<br />

is a “skills building” class, weekly/daily attendance is very important,<br />

there is no makeup for missed classes. Students 12 <strong>and</strong> older<br />

may enroll if accompanied by an adult (over 18 years of age) who<br />

is present at each class to assist the student with their project. A<br />

$10 lab fee will be due the first day of class payable to the<br />

instructor. A materials list will be on your receipt, faxed upon<br />

request or found on-line at www.lgsrecreation.org. (go to Adult<br />

Classes/Art <strong>and</strong> Design).<br />

Instructor: Feather Tippetts. is a historical costumer who has<br />

created costumes for movie, television, theatre <strong>and</strong> private clients.<br />

She draws on her extensive experience to teach students modern<br />

sewing techniques <strong>and</strong> professional shortcuts used in the garment<br />

industry.<br />

LOMA SUMMER ARTS CAMP<br />

LGS Recreation, in partnership with the Mountain Art Guild, is<br />

pleased to present The Loma Summer Arts Camp. With an artistic<br />

emphasis on Nature <strong>and</strong> Our Environment, this program is an<br />

exciting experience in the arts (painting, drawing, journaling,<br />

collage, paper-making, bookmaking, music <strong>and</strong> puppetry.) The<br />

curriculum is enriching <strong>and</strong> creative, offered as a <strong>fun</strong> summer break<br />

choice for students. A final project will be assembled for the last day<br />

of class <strong>and</strong> an art exhibit party of student work will be held for<br />

parents <strong>and</strong> siblings. The Loma Summer Arts Camp is open to students<br />

entering kindergarten <strong>through</strong> grade 5 in fall <strong>2008</strong>. There<br />

are no exceptions to this grade requirement. The camp will be held<br />

in Whitaker Hall at Skyl<strong>and</strong> Church <strong>and</strong> features onsite teachers<br />

who are local artists <strong>and</strong> musicians. Varied class segments are<br />

offered <strong>through</strong>out the class day <strong>and</strong> a supervised lunch break is<br />

included. Students must bring their own lunch. Students should<br />

attend each day of the camp as activities build to a final project <strong>and</strong><br />

art exhibit for parents. Students who miss class will not be able to<br />

complete their final project. Parents must complete an emergency<br />

form the first day of camp. There is a $25 materials fee payable to<br />

Jeanne Tillman on the first day of camp.<br />

MOUNTAIN DANCE CAMP<br />

Come join a week of dance, music, tumbling, crafts <strong>and</strong> more! We’ll<br />

be exploring all types of dance styles <strong>and</strong> variety of music to dance<br />

too. Bring your busy body’s <strong>and</strong> let’s shake, rattle <strong>and</strong> roll! Come<br />

have <strong>fun</strong>, learn new steps <strong>and</strong> get your body <strong>and</strong> mind energized.<br />

Materials fee of $40 payable to instructor first day. Wear comfortable<br />

clothing <strong>and</strong> bring a water bottle. Bring a sack lunch.<br />
