SEWING BASICS WEEK
Students will learn how to read and understand patterns, select
fabric and notions, use a sewing machine, insert zippers, and create
drawstring and elastic casings. Projects will include a decorative
pillow, fleece pullover and a free choice project. Sewing machines
are provided, however, it is beneficial to learn on your own
machine. Small class size with lots of individual instruction. This
is a “skills building” class, weekly/daily attendance is very important,
there is no makeup for missed classes. Students 12 and older
may enroll if accompanied by an adult (over 18 years of age) who
is present at each class to assist the student with their project. A
$10 lab fee will be due the first day of class payable to the
instructor. A materials list will be on your receipt, faxed upon
request or found on-line at www.lgsrecreation.org. (go to Adult

Instructor: Feather Tippetts. is a historical costumer who has
created costumes for movie, television, theatre and private clients.
She draws on her extensive experience to teach students modern
sewing techniques and professional shortcuts used in the garment
industry.

LOMA SUMMER ARTS CAMP
LGS Recreation, in partnership with the Mountain Art Guild, is
pleased to present The Loma Summer Arts Camp. With an artistic
emphasis on Nature and Our Environment, this program is an
exciting experience in the arts (painting, drawing, journaling,
collage, paper-making, bookmaking, music and puppetry.) The
curriculum is enriching and creative, offered as a fun summer break
choice for students. A final project will be assembled for the last day
of class and an art exhibit party of student work will be held for
parents and siblings. The Loma Summer Arts Camp is open to students
entering kindergarten through grade 5 in fall 2008. There
are no exceptions to this grade requirement. The camp will be held
in Whitaker Hall at Skyland Church and features onsite teachers
who are local artists and musicians. Varied class segments are
offered throughout the class day and a supervised lunch break is
included. Students must bring their own lunch. Students should
attend each day of the camp as activities build to a final project and
art exhibit for parents. Students who miss class will not be able to
complete their final project. Parents must complete an emergency
form the first day of camp. There is a $25 materials fee payable to
Jeanne Tillman on the first day of camp.

MOUNTAIN DANCE CAMP
Come join a week of dance, music, tumbling, crafts and more! We’ll
be exploring all types of dance styles and variety of music to dance
too. Bring your busy body’s and let’s shake, rattle and roll! Come
have fun, learn new steps and get your body and mind energized.
Materials fee of $40 payable to instructor first day. Wear comfortable
clothing and bring a water bottle. Bring a sack lunch.
