We will focus on patterns <strong>and</strong> technique, including posture, timing,<br />

footwork <strong>and</strong> a little bit of that Cuban motion. The last class will<br />

be a practice party from 7:00-8:30PM. Class is co-sponsored with<br />

the City of Saratoga Recreation. Fee is per couple, we do not change<br />

BALLROOM-WALTZ,<br />

FOXTROT, TANGO<br />

Come join us for the romantic dances! We will focus on patterns<br />

<strong>and</strong> technique, including footwork, timing, posture <strong>and</strong> that extra<br />

special connection between you <strong>and</strong> your partner. The last class will<br />

be a practice party from 7:00-8:30PM. Class is co-sponsored with<br />

BAND: LGS BIG BAND<br />

The musical focus of the 17 piece LGS Big B<strong>and</strong> is jazz in all styles<br />

with an emphasis on swing <strong>and</strong> dance. The classics from Miller,<br />

Goodman, Basie, <strong>and</strong> Ellington are featured along with some<br />

rock/<strong>fun</strong>k classics from the 70’s <strong>and</strong> 80’s. The b<strong>and</strong>s format is 5<br />

Saxophones, 4 Trombones, 4 Trumpets, Piano, Bass, Guitar <strong>and</strong><br />

Drums. Participants must be over 18 years of age. If positions are<br />

filled, the b<strong>and</strong> is still always looking for players to sub for absentees<br />

(no fee for subs). If you have solid skills on your instrument <strong>and</strong> are<br />

looking for an opportunity to play in a big b<strong>and</strong>, contact the b<strong>and</strong><br />

BAND: SARATOGA<br />

COMMUNITY BAND<br />

The Saratoga B<strong>and</strong> is composed of amateur musicians of all ages<br />

<strong>and</strong> occupations. Emphasis is on having <strong>fun</strong> <strong>through</strong> music. No<br />

audition is necessary, however, you must be able to play a b<strong>and</strong><br />

instrument. The b<strong>and</strong> performs several concerts <strong>and</strong> civic events<br />

each year. ADULT EDUCATION: There are no resident requirements<br />

for adult education classes or services. Adults have priority<br />

for enrollment in all adult education programs. Adults are 18 years<br />

<strong>and</strong> older. This course is titled: ‘Performance Arts’. No Class: 11/10.<br />

BELLY DANCING I<br />

Introduction to Middle Eastern dance physical fitness program that<br />

includes basic steps, floor/veil work <strong>and</strong> finger cymbals. With so<br />

many styles of belly dance to aspire to, learning the basics can open<br />

so many doors to so many possibilities. Plus, you get to have so<br />

MUCH <strong>fun</strong>! Students should wear leotard <strong>and</strong> tights or sweats <strong>and</strong><br />

need to provide veils <strong>and</strong> cymbals. You may purchase them in class<br />

from the instructor. Optional: Dance recital in the fall <strong>and</strong> spring.<br />

Instructor: Paulette Wise <strong>and</strong> Nicole Smith.<br />

BELLY DANCING II & III<br />

A <strong>fun</strong> way to a total physical fitness program! Students should wear<br />

leotard <strong>and</strong> tights or sweats <strong>and</strong> need to provide veils <strong>and</strong> cymbals.<br />

You may purchase them in class from the instructor. Advanced<br />

steps, floor work <strong>and</strong> veil work. Instruction in transitions, drum<br />

solos, double veil, floor <strong>and</strong> prop work. Optional: Dance recital in<br />

the fall <strong>and</strong> spring.<br />

CARIBBEAN DANCING<br />

Become versed in styles of Trinidad’s folklore <strong>and</strong> other ritualistic<br />

forms that have evolved from the merging of African <strong>and</strong> South<br />

American cultures, inspiring the joy for life <strong>through</strong>out the ages.<br />

Experience an exhilarating aerobic workout that feels effortless <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>fun</strong>. Get motivated by the pulsing rhythms of live drumming. Learn<br />

uplifting traditional movements that excite your passion. Satisfy<br />

needs for fitness <strong>and</strong> artistic expression while creating well being in<br />

the mind, body, <strong>and</strong> spirit. Performance opportunities available, if<br />

interested. Class is welcome to all creeds, gender, ages, ethnicities,<br />

<strong>and</strong> ability levels. Adults <strong>and</strong> students 14+, who are accompanied<br />

by someone over 18+ years of age, are welcome. No shoes are necessary,<br />

Instructor: Shereen Manalani. has taught at West Valley College, San<br />

Jose State, has been a guest instructor <strong>and</strong> choreographer at Mission<br />

Cultural Center, Alice Arts Center, Santa Clara University, <strong>and</strong> for<br />

local performance groups. Her passion for this style led to 14 years of<br />

study under internationally known dance master, Wilfred Mark.<br />

CARIBBEAN DRUMMING<br />

IN THE SUMMER!<br />

Summer opportunity to drum during the Caribbean Dance class.<br />

Bring your djembes, water <strong>and</strong> a piece of cardboard or yoga mat to<br />

place under your drum. Adults <strong>and</strong> students 14+, who are accompanied<br />

by someone over 18 years of age, are welcome. It is expected<br />

that you have some experience drumming. Caribbean Drumming<br />

class with Steve Eldridge from 7:00-7:30PM will be back in the fall<br />

Caribbean Dance will be meeting in the LGHS <strong>Community</strong><br />

Room on 7/24.<br />

Instructor: Steve Eldridge. mastered the trap set <strong>through</strong> strict training<br />

with local Curtis Cooper. The passion for rhythm ranged from marching<br />

b<strong>and</strong>s to studying varieties of cultural folklore. He’s played both trap <strong>and</strong><br />

h<strong>and</strong> drums with many local b<strong>and</strong>s, <strong>and</strong> the stage has been no stranger.<br />

The love <strong>and</strong> intensity of Trinidad’s rhythmic drive captured this well<br />

versed percussionist; who then studied under internationally know<br />

Caribbean drum masters including Hugh Humphrey <strong>and</strong> Val Serrant.<br />
