218 Health systems in transition France ECEVE team of INSERM and of the University of Paris 7 that is dedicated to provide evidence for decision-making for vulnerable groups of people. She is also the head of the ERASM team that is conducting research in mental health services and economics. Karen Berg Brigham, JD/MPH, is a health policy analyst at URC Eco Ile-de- France. She obtained her law degree from the University of Miami School of Law, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. Her masters in public health is from the École des Hautes Etudes en Santé Publique (EHESP), where she has also served as a lecturer on international comparisons of health systems. She began her health policy career in Washington, United States before moving to France. Her work at URC Eco has included European projects on rare diseases, financing of research on noncommunicable diseases and health technology assessment. Isabelle Durand-Zaleski, is a medical doctor and Professor in Public Health. She conducted her PhD research in economics and management at Paris IX University. She holds a Masters in Public Health from Harvard University and a diploma from the Political Study Institute of Paris (Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris). She has been the head of the Evaluation Department in the National Health Authority. She is currently head of the Paris Health Economics and Health Services Research Units and of the Department of Public Health at Henri Mondor Hospital. Cristina Hernández-Quevedo, is Technical Officer/Research Fellow at the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (WHO), LSE Health, London. She holds a PhD in Economics and an MSc in Health Economics from the University of York, United Kingdom. Research interests include inequalities in health and lifestyle factors, equity in access to health and social care services and socioeconomic determinants of health. She has published articles on these topics in internationally recognized scientific journals.
The Health Systems in Transition profiles A series of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies The Health Systems in Transition (HiT) country profiles provide an analytical description of each health care system and of reform initiatives in progress or under development. They aim to provide relevant comparative information to support policy-makers and analysts in the development of health systems and reforms in the countries of the WHO European Region and beyond. The HiT profiles are building blocks that can be used: • to learn in detail about different approaches to the financing, organization and delivery of health services; • to describe accurately the process, content and implementation of health reform programmes; • to highlight common challenges and areas that require more in-depth analysis; and • to provide a tool for the dissemination of information on health systems and the exchange of experiences of reform strategies between policymakers and analysts in countries of the WHO European Region.
