<strong>The</strong> atoms arrive in discrete lumps. <strong>The</strong>re is no interference in the beginning.<br />

<strong>The</strong> atoms arrive like bullets at the screen. But later they show interference.<br />

<strong>The</strong>ir appearance shows the structure <strong>of</strong> waves in a similar manner to waves on<br />

water. <strong>The</strong> seven pictures shown were taken at intervals ranging from 5<br />

minutes to 42 hours <strong>and</strong> 18 minutes. Quantum objects show a double quality <strong>of</strong><br />

particles <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> waves. <strong>The</strong>y are dependent on the instrument <strong>of</strong> measurement:<br />

the double-slit. This double quality has been named ‘complementarity’ by Niels<br />

Bohr. Complementarity means that the two qualities are not dualistic. <strong>The</strong>y do<br />

not exclude each other but complement each other like the poles <strong>of</strong> a dipole.<br />
