Health and Social Care integration is a Scottish
Government policy aimed at improving co-ordination
of the funding and delivery of health and social work
services for adults. In Renfrewshire the Policy Board
that oversees social work will be replaced in April 2016
by an Integrated Joint Board made up of four Health
representatives and four local authority Councillors.
This is a development which, in principle, should be
welcomed. However, the council administration has
excluded councillors from all the opposition parties from
the new board. They have appointed all four council
representatives and substitute members from their
own party. In a blatant denial of democracy, 55% of the councillors are
excluding the other 45% of the representatives of the people of Paisley
and Renfrewshire. The concept of collaborative working seems to elude our
Council leaders. I hope their partisan approach does not blight the future of
the Integrated Joint Board.
Some Langbank residents, supported by the Community Council have
promoted a petition to improve safety at the roundabout. I contacted
the transport minister, Derek Mackay who is also our local MSP about
the issue. He advised that a safety assessment will be undertaken by
Transport Scotland this Spring and any recommended safety measures will
be implemented. The Minister also advised that Transport Scotland have
asked Transerv to inspect the end of motorway regulations sign and make
any necessary changes to ensure it is clearly visible.
I welcome the establishment of a residents group by the new residents of
Dargavel Village. The shared surface signage for the roads is an ongoing
saga. I have asked the roads officers to apply more pressure on the
developers to expedite this matter.
The present road resurfacing in Bridge of Weir from the 2014/15
infrastructure budget will be followed by some further works in 2015/16 for
which £6,000 is budgeted from the total infrastructure expenditure for the
Ward of approximately £218,000. I doubt if this acknowledgement of the
disproportionate contribution of council tax from the village will be marked
with any celebrations!
