Partnerships Partnerships with Pacific Island TVET institutions or agencies is a cornerstone of APTC’s sustainability strategy. The initial focus of the agreement will be to support SINU in the delivery of the Certificate III in Hospitality in 2017 through the refurbishment of the kitchen facilities at the SINU Kukum campus in Honiara. University of the South Pacific (USP) Partnership Agreement The partnership has been in place for two years. Overall, 196 students have been enrolled to study at the USP campus, with 185 completing their studies to date. Thirty-two Certificate III in Commercial Cookery students, fifteen Certificate III in Patisserie students and thirty-eight Certificate III in Hospitality students studied at the Laucala campus in Suva in 2016. APTC and USP trainers continue with the shared use of the kitchen and restaurant facilities, and access to classrooms on the Laucala campus. Don Bosco Technical Institute (DBTI) Partnership Agreement Following industry consultation identifying the need for carpentry skills in Solomon Islands in 2015, fifteen students completed training in the Certificate III in Carpentry delivered from the Skills Barn at DBTI in semester one 2016. Further training delivery in the Certificate III in Carpentry is scheduled at these premises in semester one and semester two 2017. Since the commencement of the partnership seventy-seven students have completed training in Certificate III level qualifications and ninety-six have successfully completed Certificate II level qualifications from the DBTI site. This year also saw the opening of the hospitality and cookery training facility Isles Café at the Don Bosco campus, and the delivery of the Certificate II in Hospitality APTC Annual Report and Plan 2016 - 2017 Final 160117.docx Page 17 of 197
