Facilities and Accommodation In sharing training space with institutional partners, APTC is obligated under the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 to ensure that every training area meets the minimum requirements for safety and alignment to the training package specifications for relevant industries. Prior to the commencement of any course, the required upgrades to training spaces are implemented to ensure APTC meets all compliance obligations. Fiji Following damage from cyclone Winston, the USP Laucala Bay campus building had to undergo repairs to the roof and internal water damage. APTC contributed some funds to this work. APTC also contributed to the upgrade of the FNU Nabua site for the delivery of the Certificate III in Applied Fashion Design and Technology in 2017. PNG APTC has been involved in preparing the training facility allocated for the NATC on the PNG campus for commencement in semester 1 2017. Solomons Don Bosco Technical Institute – A training café has been established at the Don Bosco campus, and the commercial kitchen has been refurbished. This refurbishment was undertaken to meet the requirements for the delivery of the Certificate II in Hospitality. Samoa Equipment and consumables used in the delivery of the Certificate III in Refrigeration and Airconditioning in Samoa was donated to the NUS to assist with their training delivery. This represented a significant boost to their training resources. APTC has undertaken considerable rework of the electrical wiring and gas fitting in the NUS commercial kitchen to address outstanding WHS issues and to facilitate the installation of upgraded equipment. This facility is used jointly by both APTC and NUS. New tables and chairs have also been installed in the training restaurant. Vanuatu APTC Vanuatu assisted VIT with recurrent costs to assist them in re-opening in February 2016. A renovation of the VIT kitchen and restaurant areas commenced in November, in preparation for the delivery of the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery in semester 1 2017. Training for Partner Institutions As a new initiative this year, APTC has implemented a series of TVET Trainer Masterclasses for delivery in semester 1 2017. Open only to current TVET trainers throughout the Pacific, the masterclass program combines the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with the delivery of a trade qualification in the trainer’s industry field of expertise. At the successful completion of all elements of the course, the TVET trainer will have achieved a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, as well as one of the following internationally accredited qualifications: › Certificate III in Commercial Cookery › Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology › Certificate III in Carpentry Under APTC’s existing commitment to improving the teaching and learning practices at partner institutions, the following partner employees have studied in APTC courses in 2016.
