5. Align ministerial, departmental, and program mandates and funding in order to more<br />

collaboratively prevent youth homelessness across Canada.<br />

This should include:<br />

a) Identifying provincial/terr<strong>it</strong>orial and federal inter-ministerial opportun<strong>it</strong>ies for<br />

collaboration and improved service and system coordination in order to more effectively<br />

prevent homelessness for youth.<br />

b) Identifying evidence-based indicators of systems integration and diversion of youth from<br />

experiences of homelessness.<br />

c) Developing tools and metrics that provinces/terr<strong>it</strong>ories and commun<strong>it</strong>ies can use to<br />

assess system integration and improved youth homelessness prevention locally.<br />

d) Creating a federal/provincial/terr<strong>it</strong>orial/Indigenous planning table to address the needs of<br />

youth who are at risk of homelessness and experiencing homelessness.<br />

6. Foster meaningful youth engagement in all federal policy development, planning, and<br />

implementation processes related to preventing youth homelessness. Ensure the provision of<br />

necessary supports (reimbursement, compensation, accessibil<strong>it</strong>y, etc.) at all events, forums,<br />

and discussion groups.<br />

This should include the creation of:<br />

a) A Youth Advisory Table to guide the development of the Youth Homelessness Prevention<br />

Strategy, as well as advise federal leadership on other policies that have implications for<br />

youth experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. Youth w<strong>it</strong>h lived experience<br />

of homelessness must be properly supported to effectively participate in this work.<br />

b) Mechanisms through which children and youth can dialogue w<strong>it</strong>h federal leaders on all<br />

policy and programming that affects their lives, as well as mechanisms for redress.<br />

7. Eliminate all policies, laws, and protocols that directly or indirectly discriminate against youth<br />

or their families on the basis of their housing status.<br />
