WHAT WOULD IT TAKE?
2. SYSTEMS PREVENTION
When young people were asked what would have prevented their homelessness, many youth
traced these experiences back to system failures. Systems failures refer to situations in which
inadequate policy and service delivery within and between systems contribute to homelessness
for young people. Importantly, many youth felt that systems change is where prevention efforts
could be most effective. Youth identified clear policies, practices, and approaches in all systems
that could dramatically reduce a young person’s chance of becoming homeless.
