Mahone Bay Old School_A Life and Times_Bob Sayer

The Town would educate students, grades seven to twelve, from ‘...Oakhill, Whynot’s
Settlement, Indian Point, Martins River, Blockhouse , Lower, Middle and Upper
Cornwall, Maitland, Sweetland, Clearland, Big Lots and Farmville.. The big break
from tradition was that Maders Cove students would go to Centre.
The Town was ‘....to provide… a program of studies…equal to those existing in the
High Schools in the Municipality of Lunenburg..’
The Report on School
Buildings carried out in
1984 by W. N. Horner
& Associates described
the new addition as,
‘… basically of timber
construction with a rigid
frame type brick veneer
gymnasium, The classroom
wing has concrete floors
and built-up timber trusses,
wood deck and asphalt
shingle roof systems…
windows are single glazed
wood, double-hung type
with aluminium storm
sashes. The doors are
wood, with delaminating
veneers. ‘

The document is dated October 11th, 1960. It worked the financial details, particularly
the costs of bus transportation, and the amount of tuition per student the Municipality
would pay.
