Lowell Ritcey
Lowell Ritcey taught twenty five
years at the Old School, retiring in
1993. He, too, was a character who
didn’t mind joining in the fun. His
favourite entertainment for the
students was to mime smoking a
piece of board chalk like a Cuban
cigar. His contributions were many
and varied. He coached in the golden
age of the 1970s: particularly junior
basketball and won a number
of county championships. He was
a builder of the chess club and for
many years was a yearbook advisor.

Harold Uhlman
Yearbooks in the ‘80s and ‘90s did very few dedications. So the 1997-8 was a
significant exception. Mr. Uhlman came to finish his career [that had included
administration] at the Old School. But his energy and commitment was still
overflowing. A good classroom teacher, he was an active coach and school
booster. He could coach anything and well. Basketball was his speciality, but
he also did volleyball, cross-country, soccer and chess. He was remembered
for his wry sense of humour and the photo above catches that smile. Nicholas
Nowe was typical when he told this writer, “Mr. Uhlman was my favourite
teacher: “He could make you laugh and he could make you learn.”
