In 1976, all school volleyball teams were county champs, the junior A girls for the third straight year. And the senior girls had done well at provincials. The Year of The Double: 1976 Girls ‘B’ Basketball in March Girls ‘B’ Volleyball in November The Progress Enterprise of March 10, 1976 reported on the euphoria of the first ever provincial championship for the school. As the basketball Girls arrived home, they were met by a police escort, noise and sirens and led to a reception: ‘Through the flashing red lights, horns and a convoy of 40 screaming cars the people of Mahone Bay knew their team had brought home the provincial title…’ 191
The Senior Boys Lost a Heartbreaker-Last Shot of Game- In Provincial Final, 1978: Their third successive year at the ‘final four’ Chris Lenahan Revives Hockey, The ‘Hot Doggers League’ 1976-8 Mr. Lenahan made a special contribution in reviving school hockey. Two squads were made up and played on Sundays, against each other and combined to play exhibition games. And none other than old time great Murray Freeman turned out to act as time keeper. Mr. Gray was a reliable referee. ‘Hot Doggers’ 1978 1977-8 Student Leader Corps Buy A School Van “Operation Transportation” The high level of student spirit and organization was amazing. With the permission of the school board, Student Leader Corps raised enough money to buy a school van to help with transportation. It was essentially a contribution to the new elementaryjunior high.
