Understand that hierarchy<br />
creates barriers<br />
My parents always said it didn’t<br />
matter whether you were a dustbin<br />
man, the general manager, the<br />
president of the golf club, or the<br />
caddie – everyone should<br />
be afforded the same level<br />
of respect.<br />
You can either<br />
treat hierarchy as an<br />
inappropriate weapon, or<br />
you can understand that<br />
hierarchy creates barriers<br />
and slows success.<br />
Perfection<br />
doesn’t exist<br />
There is no such thing as<br />
perfection – it’s human<br />
nature to pick holes in<br />
somebody else’s work, and<br />
to find ways of showing<br />
how clever we are. Always<br />
remember, you might<br />
have done something<br />
differently, but it doesn’t<br />
mean you would have<br />
done it better!<br />
You need to have a<br />
mindset of ‘let’s just have<br />
a go’ in business, and then<br />
take customer feedback<br />
onboard and adjust. Like<br />
a child learning to ride a<br />
bike, you may fall off and<br />
scrape your knee, but you’ll get<br />
back on and learn.<br />
Tough choices are inevitable<br />
I went to a playground to pick up<br />
my children, and the other parents<br />
thought I was stepping in for their<br />
mum, who was the nanny, because<br />
I was there so irregularly. That<br />
hurt, but the reality was that I was<br />
paying the bills, I was growing the<br />
business, and that was the sacrifice<br />
I chose to make.<br />
Remove guilt<br />
Please take the word “guilt” out of<br />
your vernacular! Life isn’t perfect,<br />
and there is no continual state<br />
of balance – though you can find<br />
pockets of calm.<br />
Do stop, to move forward again<br />
The “Stop. Inhale. Reset” mantra<br />
from Scentered is a powerful one.<br />
If you have a determination to lead<br />
a really interesting life, then you<br />
need to pause and plan it. Taking<br />
time to do this can absolutely<br />
change your trajectory.<br />
Be a work in progress<br />
Keep working on yourself, writing<br />
those plans, and learning. You are<br />
your own life-long project.<br />
