DAY 1 BEAMISH OPEN AIR MUSEUM
We depart early morning and commence
our journey to Beamish and the world
famous open air museum. Beamish tells
the story of life in the North East during
the 1820’s, 1900’s and 1940’s. Step back
into the Georgian era and visit Pockerley
Hall, a 1900’s town featuring a bakery,
garage, Co-op store, old fashioned sweet
shop, a pit village, colliery, farm, tramway,
even a fairground! We check into
Redworth Hall late afternoon. Time to
unpack and prepare for dinner this
evening.

DAY 2 ALNWICK CASTLE
Join us after breakfast this morning on
our included excursion to Alnwick Castle,
the second largest inhabited castle in the
country – known as ‘Windsor of the North’
and home to the Duke of
Northumberland.
This fairy-tale castle has taken starring
roles in a number of film and television
productions, featuring as magnificent
Brancaster Castle in Downton Abbey’s
Christmas Specials 2014/2015 and
previously as Hogwarts School of
Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry
Potter movies. Alnwick is filled with one of
the country’s finest private art and
furniture collections. The gardens are the
real attraction, landscaped by Capability
Brown, they include the world’s greatest
water garden, the Grand Cascade which
sends 350 litres of water into the air every
second. Not forgetting the Ornamental
Garden, the Bamboo Labyrinth, Poison
Garden and Tree House.
DAY 3 DURHAM
After a leisurely hearty breakfast we head
to the old University City of Durham. With
delightful winding cobbled medieval
streets and a prominent peninsula
crowned with a dramatic Norman Castle –
it’s almost an island. Enjoy its colourful
town centre, or relax by the riverside, take
a cruise or browse its many boutiques,
galleries and museums. Time for lunch
before we make our return journey back
to Staffordshire.
