DAY 1 GRASMERE
Join us as we head north today, stopping
for lunch in the lovely resort of Grasmere
– the home of Wordsworth – in the heart
of the beautiful Lake District. We continue
our journey into Scotland and to the
Gretna Hall Hotel. We settle into our
surroundings and enjoy dinner this
evening in the Restaurant.
DAY 2 ABBOTSFORD HOUSE
After a hearty breakfast, we travel via
Selkirk, historically important with William
Wallace, being named ‘Guardian of
Scotland’ here. We continue to
Abbotsford House, the extraordinary
home of the 19 th Century novelist and
’Great Scott’ Sir Walter Scott, who
popularised tartan, saved the Scottish
banknote and rediscovered his country’s
Crown Jewels.

DAY 3 SOLWAY
Today we take a tour along the beautiful
Solway Coastline with a local guide. The
Cumbrian coast has a fascinating history.
Visit some of the tiny forgotten harbours,
hear of the smuggling stories and enjoy
great views of Scotland and the estuary.
DAY 4 DUMFRIES/Moffat
Today we head to the historic market
town of Dumfries, which straddles the
river Nith, connected by lovely russethued
sandstone bridges and with a
special connection to Scotland’s National
Bard. Home to a number of famous
individuals including the Peter Pan author,
J M Barrie, and Formula One racing driver,
David Coulthard, but its most famous
former resident is Robert Burns. The
simple sandstone house still stands as a
museum – Admission free of charge. We
continue to the vibrant market town of
Moffat, offering the warmest of Scottish
welcomes to complete our day.
DAY 5 yORKSHIRE DALES
Sadly, after a hearty breakfast, we bid
farewell to Scotland and head into the
Yorkshire Dales National Park. A scenic
lunch stop before we retrace our steps
home.
