Sure, it’s easy to just plop down on the sofa and watch TV
as a family, but wouldn’t it be more fun to break the mold
and do something a little different? (The answer is yes.)
May is Family Wellness Month and what better time than now
to get the family unit back together before the height of summer
is upon us and everyone disperses for summer school, travel,
camp, etc. If you need a bright idea, look no further than Art &
Jazz on the Avenue. Held Wednesday, May 25 from 6 to 9pm in
the SOFA Neighborhood (Southeast Third Avenue from East Atlantic
Avenue to Southeast Second Street), this free event highlights
local businesses and artists, and features live music for all
to enjoy. The street will be closed, the shops will be open, and
it’s the perfect event for spending time together enjoying all that
our downtown has to offer. The Downtown Development Authority,
in partnership with the Downtown Merchant and Business
Association, is hosting the event and invites you and yours
to stroll the SOFA neighborhood and experience live music, art,
culture, and special promotions by retailers and merchants. Visit
www.downtowndelraybeach.com or call (561) 243-1077 for
more information and the musical lineup.
If you’re looking for a break from the beach and BBQs this
Memorial Day Weekend, head instead to where the crafters
and makers are sharing their makings. You’re guaranteed to
enjoy something new, something creative, and something that
could be the beginning of a beautiful appreciation for a new part
of your art collection. May is Creative Beginnings Month and is
also home to the 24th Annual Downtown Delray Beach Memorial
Day Weekend Craft Festival. Held at the Delray Beach Tennis
Center, this Festival features paintings, jewelry, glass work, pottery,
and much more from some of the nation’s finest crafters.
Not only will you be privy to all of the handmade gifts from vendors
who find beauty in creative beginnings, you’ll also be able
to enjoy a green market-style section of the festival, complete
with gourmet sauces, handmade soaps, live orchids, and more.
The free Festival is held Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29
from 10am to 5pm. So craft your new beginning this month and
see where the rest of the year takes you! The Delray Beach Tennis
Center is located at 201 W Atlantic Ave. Visit www.artfestival.com
Burgers. Name a more perfect and versatile sandwich. I’ll
wait. Nothing beats a chargrilled burger, a smash burger,
or a double patty smothered in cheese where you can
only dive in face first. May is National Hamburger Month and
while Memorial Day might be the perfect day to indulge, the
burger deserves respect the rest of the month, too. If you prefer
to don a napkin bib instead of an apron, start your burger feast
at The Office and sink your teeth into their CEO Burger, made
with 100% all-natural beef, tomato jam, bacon, gruyere, blue
cheese, arugula, and Office sauce for $21. For an elevated take
on the burger, Cut 432 is proud to serve you their cheeseburger,
made with Jackman Ranch wagyu, aged Vermont cheddar, and
hand-cut fries for $25. If you’re looking for a planet-friendly option,
head to Death or Glory and revel in their California Veggie
Burger, topped with LTOP and avocado mayo, and served on
a potato bun for $15. Whatever the burger version you fancy,
the Ave is sure to deliver (literally and figuratively). Visit www.
downtowndelraybeach.com or call (561) 243-1077 for specific
restaurant information and details.
