Planning for a New Plant
The City’s new water treatment plant, estimated to be completed
in 2026, is just one of approximately 75 capital improvement
projects we have in the pipeline. While we are only in the planning
stages, I am very excited about this project because it will ensure a
state-of-the-art water treatment process, advance the City’s monitoring
and control systems, improve water pressure, and serve our
future needs.
Strengthening our InfraSTRucture
Our city has already been awarded $10.9 Million from the federal
government’s American Rescue Plan Act and we are hopeful that
more funding will be awarded as a result of the Bipartisan Infrastructure
Law. These funds will help ensure we can improve the quality,
safety, and reliability of our infrastructure systems to increase our
sustainability. In addition to the water plant project, we have dozens
of other projects addressing everything from roadway safety and accessibility
to seawall and beach nourishment. Please visit www.delraybeach.gov
Project Program.
Employee hIghlight - Deon Bass
Deon is an engineering inspector
for the Public Works Department,
and is responsible for inspecting
large-scale Capital Improvement
Program construction projects.
Whether it be on the job or
out in the community, Deon
goes the extra mile. He takes
calls and answers emails after
hours and each year he personally
raises funds to buy toys for
children in need. During the 2021
holiday season Deon raised $2,600.
Florida Stormwater Association
Excellence aWard 2022
I am proud to report that our city received the “Florida Stormwater
Association Excellence Award for 2022.” Annual recipients are selected
through a highly competitive, peer-review process for demonstrating
creativity, innovation and excellence in local water quality and
programs and projects. Our city’s Stormwater Master Plan was created
in 1993 and is updated every five years. This plan uses modelling
of watershed basins and integrated sea level rise projections to identify
problem areas and prioritize capital improvement projects for the
next 30 years to address water resource issues, including drainage
problems, street flooding, tidal flooding, inadequate infrastructure,
stormwater quality and recharge. A total of 14 problem areas have
been identified and a total of $378M in construction projects are recommended
for 30-year capital improvement program planning.
Sea Turtles on Delray’s beaches
Every year from March 1 - Oct. 31, sea turtles come
ashore to lay eggs on our beaches. Artificial lighting can
cause hatchlings to become disoriented which can prevent
them from finding their way to the ocean. We can
help sea turtles by ensuring no direct or indirect light is
visible from our beach. Do your part to help sea turtles
safely get back to the ocean- keep your distance from nesting
turtles by moving your chairs and cabanas to the sandy
foot of the dune each night.
