The lights burn brightly; there is no blackout. This, you Fee. is America, and today is Thanksgiving." These sentences were taken from The Lowell's 1941 Thanksgiving editorial. We were thankful then that we were a neutral nation and had not felt the effects of war. We had won the football championship, and the victory made the day complete. Since that day things have changed. In December we entered the war. Blackouts were frequent. May found us standing in line for sugar ration books. We began saving scrap. Dimout laws were put into effect Now, gasoline and meat are to be rationed. Last year we were grateful that we didn't have to worn' about these things. Today such inconveniences are immaterial ; for we have higher values. We are thankful today that our homes have not been attacked and that we still have a plentiful supply of food. More than that. President Roosevelt's recent words express - our feelings: "Americans are united as never before. The strength of the United Nations is on the upgrade." This is Thanksgiving, 1942. Teepee Tattle Tales Has Opened a Second Front So long, gossip—Teepee has opened a second front1 Lowell has always been tops in everything. The football team has won more championships than any other school; Patrick Henry has always had many of his successors in this school—in other words, unsurpassed debaters; scholarship, tops alumni, successful. When Uncle Sam called the students of America to participate in Hie war effort, Lowell was right there on call. The 3tudent body purchased an enormous amount of war stamps and bonds; books and magazines were brought for the armed forces; and scrap metal was collected in huge amounts. ': Those are the things that make Lowell outstanding, not petty gossip. For that reason, gossipy Teepee Tattlctales will be no more. Instead there will be information: about those who are so generously giving their time to the war effort. .. So long gossip 1 ' Victors Corps Enables You '"...••••-.. To Aid the War Effort We know that you want to help win the war—nothing else is possible. | -But you want to know exactly what, when, and where the Government actually want you. High school students arc now being told definitely and clearly just how they can best help. The Government set up the Victory Corps for the single purpose of making better- use now and in the future of teen-age efforts. This program tells how each ot.us can be of more service to our country; All that is necessary to become a member—that-.is, .recognition that you are 'working:for the nited States—is service to your nation.
