And, you see, you got to focus on solving real problems.
Most successful start-ups are those that address real,
tangible (problems).
We were talking about value earlier, value creating
solutions. You've got to spend time understanding
the pain points of your target customers. This not only
ensures your product or service is in demand, but also
helps in building a solution that truly resonates with
them.
You need to build a solid team. Your team is your
start-up's backbone. You've got to focus on assembling
a diverse group of individuals who not only share your
vision, but also bring unique skills and perspectives
to the table. A well-rounded team fosters innovation.
They effectively solve problems and is more resilient in
the face of challenges. You got to cultivate resilience
and persistence. Like I said, this is a journey and it's
fraught with challenges and setbacks. Resilience and
persistence are keys to overcoming these obstacles.
You've got to learn to view failures as stepping stones
rather than a road block. What did I learn from this
failure? All right, what do I do better? Remember,
perseverance is often what separates successful
entrepreneurs from the rest.
Of course, I'm going to say this. You've got to
embrace technology and innovation. In today's digital
age, leveraging technology and innovation can provide
a significant competitive advantage. You've got to stay
abreast of technology advancements that can improve
your operations, enhance your product and streamline
your customer service.
Now, you've got to be mindful of money. Financial
prudence (or otherwise) can make or break any startup
anywhere in the world. Be diligent in managing
resources, keep overheads low, and always, always
plan for contingencies. Understand the basics of
financial management even if you have a CFO or an
accountant. It's essential for making informed decisions
about your start-up's growth and sustainability.
Now, as an entrepreneur, you've got to know that
it's a continuous learning process. I've been at it
forever and I'm still learning today. Stay curious. Be
open to new ideas, and always be willing to adapt. The
technology landscape is ever evolving and so should
your understanding of your industry. Read extensively,
attend workshops and seminars, and never pass up an
opportunity to learn from others or teach as the best
way of learning, especially from your failures.
Finally, build strong relationships within the startup
ecosystem because that's going to provide you
invaluable support, mentorship and opportunities.
Engage with other entrepreneurs, investors like myself
and other industry experts. Attend networking events,
participate in forums, and don't hesitate to reach out for
advice or feedback. Well, while there's no one-size-fitsall
formula for entrepreneurial success, these principles
will provide you a solid framework.
Remembering it's a marathon, not a sprint. Stay
focused, be patient, and keep pushing forward with
determination and passion. I trust that helps.
Accomplish Magazine: What will you advise the
present administration of Bola Tinubu Nigeria? And, in
one sentence to describe Harry 'Tomi Davies.
H. Tomi Davies(TD): I'm not into political advice, so
I wouldn't be giving any other than to say I respect the
Presidency. And I expect that they will do whatever is
prudent and right to the Nigerian public.
To describe myself, I'll say I am a Lagos geek turned
London grandfather! (Laughs)
