Two explanations of the word
fits the context of this write-up
viz. "adherence to the facts" and
"fairness and straightforwardness of
conduct". These explanations from
the Merriam-Webster Dictionary
show us that no reasonable person
can have a sustainable justification
to shoot down honesty; meaning
that even people who profit from
dishonesty don't like to be at its
receiving end. Therefore, if dishonest
people dislike being victims of
dishonesty, there is so much for all to
gain from honesty! Wow! Doesn't this
mean so much to each of us? Wait
a minute... Isn't it likely that majority
of the wars, civil tension, domestic
dysfunction and organisational
crisis would never happen where
everyone places honesty as a top
priority? In order words, numerous
crisis that have led to loss of lives,
livelihood or property could be
resolved if all affected parties come
to the discussion or negotiation
table leaning on honesty?
For instance, this writer is among
the people who believe that is if
the parties that went to discuss the
deteriorating Nigerian situation in
Aburi, Ghana, had gone bent on
honesty and returned to pursue
same, majority of the peoples of
the South East and South South
geopolitical zones who died
needlessly wouldn't have died. Better
still, Nigeria would have become the
true giant of Africa it was perceived
to be and gone on to join the comity
of 'first world' nations.
In much the same way, many of the
banks that went extinct in Nigeria
would have remained and, perhaps,
through mergers, become giants
in the finance sector. Taken further,
it also means that on account of
honesty, many relationships would
not have happened, in the first
place, thus saving the latter victims
from all the pains and distress of
heart break!
Another issue is the temptation to
yield to telling half truths. Please,
spend time to reason this with me:
Do half truths cause less pain in the
long-term? The words of this Yiddish
proverb amply and aptly answers
the question: A half truth is a whole
lie. Let us face facts... How do you
feel when you find out that you took
certain relationship steps on the
basis of half truths you were told and
wish you could undo the actions?
Please, spend a few minutes reading

Now, truthfully answer this question:
Is your mind throbbing on account of
guilt or do you feel peace which truth
(honesty) always brings? Has reading
this piece and the various quotes
about honesty roused a strong desire
to remain on the plus side of honesty
or did you just determine to dive
further to the negative side? Mark you...
There will always be consequences
on whatever your choice is. And,
consequences are like the branches
of your favourite fruit tree! They grow
wider than stems carrying them! Plus,
they are relentless in showing up and
sustaining their effects!
So, here goes the question again:
What does honesty mean to you? Just
remember one reason you must love
and embrace honesty. It's the only
way to build and sustain trust! You say
someone doesn't trust you? How did
you shove trust away?
