FEATURE / ANALYSIS
Accomplish Magazine:
How are families in the North East
zone adapting to the economic
situation in terms of access to basic
amenities and infrastructure?
Mrs. Aishat Jallor Abubakar:
Well, families have to rely on
alternative sources of water, such as
rivers and wells, which may be
contaminated and unsafe for
consumption. Some others have to
invest in water purification methods or
travel long distances to access clean
water, invest in alternative sources of
energy, such as generators or solar
panels, to meet their energy needs.
Sone support has also come from
humanitarian organisations and
government assistance programmes
to meet their basic needs, among
many others.
Accomplish Magazine:
How has the economic
downturn affected the
standard of living for families
in the North West zone?
Mrs. Zainab Abdulrahman:
The fact is that many families
have lost their sources of
income as businesses have
struggled to survive in the harsh
economic climate. This has led
to a decline in the standard of
living. Families are unable to
afford basic needs such as
food, shelter, and health care.
The lack of economic
opportunities has also hurt
education, as they are unable
to afford school fees and other
educational expenses for their
children.
Accomplish Magazine:
What initiatives are in place to
support families in the North
West zone to overcome the
economic hardships they are
facing?
Mrs. Zainab Abdulrahman:
Government and some
organisations are making
efforts to support small-scale
businesses and agriculture by
providing access to microfinance
and credit facilities to
help entrepreneurs and farmers
rebuild their businesses. The
government has been investing
in infrastructure and
development projects in the
region, to create more
economic opportunities for
families in this zone.
Accomplish Magazine:
In what ways has the economic
situation in the South East zone
affected families in terms of
entrepreneurship and business
opportunities?
Mrs. Cynthia Egboh:
The lack of infrastructure,
government support, and access
to capital has made it difficult for
entrepreneurs to start and
sustain their businesses. Many
families have had to either shut
down their businesses or
downsize to survive. This has not
only affected families' income
and financial security but has
also hurt the overall economy of
the region.
Accomplish Magazine:
How are families in the South
East zone coping with the
economic challenges in
terms of securing stable
employment and financial
security?
Mrs. Cynthia Egboh:
Many individuals have turned
to small-scale farming,
trading, and artisan work as a
means of generating income.
This has allowed families to
sustain themselves and
provide for their basic needs,
albeit with much difficulty.
While some others had to rely
on the support of extended
family members and
community networks to
survive.
