<strong>Gateway</strong> daemon on z/OS<br />

In this chapter, we describe how we installed and configured the <strong>CICS</strong><br />

<strong>Transaction</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong> (<strong>CICS</strong> TG) on z/OS, and how we connected to it using the<br />

<strong>CICS</strong> TG TCP protocol, from a Java client application running on UNIX System<br />

Services and Windows 2000.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>CICS</strong> TG TCP protocol is a TCP/IP socket-based network protocol. It can be<br />

used by any remote Java application to communicate with the <strong>Gateway</strong> daemon.<br />

A UNIX daemon runs under UNIX System Services like a started task in MVS. In<br />

fact, the <strong>CICS</strong> TG daemon is started under an MVS started task in our<br />

implementation.<br />
