CAREER 2009—Began his first full professional season at Single-A Stockton but earned a late season promotion to Double-A Midland and combined for a 10-10 record and a 4.09 ERA in 27 games, all starts…tied for fifth in the A’s farm system in wins (10) and ranked seventh in ERA (4.09), strikeouts (113) and innings (136.1)…allowed a .233 opponents batting average, including .224 against right-handed hitters and .245 against left-handers…had a 1.38 strikeout to walk ratio (36 so, 26 bb) against lefties and 2.85 against righties (77 so, 27 bb)…opponents hit .216 with runners in scoring position and were 10 for 59 (.169) with RISP and two outs…compiled a 2.73 ERA over the first three innings of a game and a 5.97 ERA from the fourth inning on…tossed six or more innings in just eight of his 27 starts, allowed two runs or fewer 14 times and walked two batters or fewer 18 times…was named as the A’s number six prospect by Baseball America following the season and was also tabbed as having the Best Slider…went 5-6 with a 4.17 ERA in 18 starts with Stockton…was 0-2 with a 4.40 ERA over his first three starts before being placed on the disabled list April 27 with a strained right shoulder…was reinstated May 5 and had no decisions and a 3.38 ERA in five starts in May…lost each of his first two starts in June to extend his season-opening losing streak to four games…picked up his first professional win June 12 at Visalia (5.2 ip, 3 h, 3 r, 3 er, 3 bb, 7 so)…compiled a season best four-game winning streak from June 30 to July 16 (2.19 ERA)…struck out a season high eight in 5.2 innings and combined on a three-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Bakersfield, July 10…matched his strikeout best two starts later in his final Single-A start at Lancaster, July 21…was promoted to Midland the next day and posted a 5-4 record and a 3.96 ERA in nine starts with the RockHounds…tossed his first career complete game in his second Double-A start, a seven-inning seven-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader against Corpus Christi Aug. 1…however, was the losing pitcher in the RockHounds 4-0 loss…went 2-3 with a 6.33 ERA over his first five starts… then did not allow a run in three of his final four regular season starts, going 3-1 with a 1.17 ERA…made two postseason starts for the RockHounds and had a win and a 1.46 ERA…struck out 19 and walked just three in 12.1 innings. 2008—Was selected by the A’s in the second round of the draft and was assigned to Single-A Kane County…went 0-1 with a 4.66 ERA in six games, four starts, for the Cougars…held the opposition to a .219 batting average, including .208 against right-handed hitters and .240 against lefties…allowed his only home run to a left-handed hitter and issued just one of his five walks against righties…opponents hit .186 with the bases empty and .267 with runners on…however, they were 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position and two outs…pitched 2.0 scoreless and hitless innings of relief and struck out two in his professional debut June 24 at Quad Cities…then had a no decision in his first starting assignment June 28 at Peoria (3.0 ip, 2 h, 1 r, 1 er, 3 so)…had a 1.80 ERA in two outings before he was placed on the disabled list June 29 with a strained right shoulder…was reinstated from the DL Aug. 13 and was 0-1 with a 5.65 ERA in four games, three starts, following his return…struck out a season high seven in 3.2 innings Aug. 24 at Clinton, but was the losing pitcher in the Cougars 3-1 loss.
