2010 HiGHLiGHTS<br />

Was the A’s first round selection in the First-Year Player Draft and signed July 29…went 0 for 7 with<br />

two walks in three games with the A’s affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League before he was transferred to<br />

Single-A Vancouver of the Short-Season Northwest League Aug. 6…batted .284 with seven home runs<br />

and 26 RBI in 27 games with the Canadians for a .266 average in 30 games overall…hit .316 (25 for 79)<br />

with six of his seven home runs and 21 of his 26 RBI against right-handed pitching compared to .133 (4<br />

for 30) against left-handers…his average improved to .294 with runners in scoring position…five of his<br />

seven home runs came with runners on base…batted .393 during the day and .222 at night…compiled a<br />

.158 (3 for 19) average when leading off an inning…hit third 20 times, second seven times, fourth twice<br />

and sixth once…appeared in 29 games in center field, including all 27 of his outings with Vancouver…<br />

was named the A’s third best prospect by Baseball America following the season and was also tabbed by<br />

the magazine as the number two prospect in the Northwest League.<br />

MinORS: Made his professional debut Aug. 3 against the Padres’ AZL affiliate and was 0 for 2 in a<br />

start at designated hitter…went 0 for 13 over his first five games before a 2 for 4 performance Aug. 9<br />

against Tri-Cities began a six-game hitting streak (11 for 25, .440)…connected for his first professional<br />

home run Aug. 13 against Everett and then hit four home runs over a six-game span from Aug. 17 to<br />

23…had 15 RBI over that stretch, including a season-high five Aug. 20 against Boise…went 4 for 4 with<br />

three doubles in the final regular season game Sept. 5 against Everett…then appeared in two postseason<br />

games for Vancouver, going 3 for 9 (.333) with a walk…the Canadians were swept in the best of three<br />

semi-finals and he was transferred to Kane County Sept. 11 for the Midwest League Semi-Finals…went<br />

4 for 12 (.333) with two home runs and four RBI in three postseason games with the Cougars.<br />

PERSOnAL/MiSCELLAnEOUS<br />

Michael B. Choice was originally signed by A’s scout Armann Brown…attended the University of Texas-Arlington<br />

and left as the Mavericks’ career leader in home runs (34)…reached base safely in 157 of<br />

166 collegiate games…was named Southland Conference Player and Hitter of the Year as a junior in<br />

2010…hit a league-leading .383 with 16 home runs and 59 RBI while leading the nation with a school<br />

and conference record 76 walks (.568 on-base percentage)…reached base safely in all 60 games, giving<br />

him a 72-game reaching base streak dating back to 2009…earned Baseball America 1st-Team All-<br />

America honors…was named Southland Conference Freshman of the Year in 2008 after hitting .376<br />

with seven home runs and 51 RBI…played for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team following<br />

the 2009 season…graduated from Timberview High School.<br />
