THE BULLPEn: The A’s bullpen compiled a 3.75 ERA, which ranked sixth in the American League…<br />

converted 38 of 51 (74.5%) save opportunities, which was third best in the AL…the 13 blown saves tied<br />

for the fewest in the AL, but the save opportunities were third fewest and the saves tied for fourth fewest…also<br />

ranked fourth in the AL in opponents batting average (.248), fifth in on-base percentage (.325)<br />

and eighth in slugging percentage (.394)…held first batters faced to a .214 batting average, which was<br />

the third lowest mark in the AL…it was the lowest average by an A’s team since 1989 (.199)…allowed<br />

27.1% of inherited runners to score, which was fourth lowest in the AL…compiled a 17-23 (.425) record,<br />

which was the second lowest winning percentage in the AL and fourth lowest in <strong>Oakland</strong> history…<br />

it was the lowest by an A’s team since 1986 (15-29, .341).<br />

OFFEnSE: The A’s ranked ninth in the American League with a .256 batting average and .324 on-base<br />

percentage but their .378 slugging percentage was second lowest as was their .241 average with runners<br />

in scoring position…the average with RISP was the lowest by an A’s team since 1997 (.239)…had the<br />

fourth fewest runs scored in the AL with 663, marking just the second time in the last 28 years the A’s<br />

scored fewer than 700 runs in a non-strike season (had 646 in 2008)…averaged 4.09 runs per game,<br />

which was the seventh lowest figure in <strong>Oakland</strong> history…had 30 triples, which were the most by an A’s<br />

team since 1987 (33)…that ranked sixth in the AL, which was the highest finish by an A’s team since<br />

1981 (5 th )…placed fourth in the AL with 43 sacrifice hits, which were the A’s most in a season since<br />

1998 (58)…had 527 walks for the second consecutive season, which is the A’s fewest in a non-strike<br />

season since 1985 (508)…were walked just 16 times intentionally, matching the 2009 A’s for second<br />

fewest by a Major League team since the intentional walk became an official statistic in 1955…the only<br />

team with fewer than 16 is the 1961 Kansas City A’s (10)…had the second fewest extra base hits in the<br />

AL with 415, which was the fewest by an A’s team in a non-strike season since 1992 (385)…led the AL<br />

in reaching base on an error (60).<br />

On THE BASES: The A’s stole 156 bases, which ranked third in the American League and the majors…it<br />

was the ninth best single season total in <strong>Oakland</strong> history and the most since the 1989 club had<br />

157…were caught stealing just 38 times for a success rate of 80.4%...that led the AL and ranked second<br />

in the majors (PHI, 83.7%)…it was the second best mark in <strong>Oakland</strong> history (80.7% in 2008)…led the<br />

majors with 32 steals of third base…Rajai Davis (50), Coco Crisp (32) and Cliff Pennington (29) combined<br />

for 111 of the A’s 156 stolen bases…those are the most steals by three <strong>Oakland</strong> teammates since<br />

1983 when Rickey Henderson (108), Mike Davis (32) and Bill Almon (26) combined for 166…had two<br />

players with 30 or more steals for the first time since 1995 (Henderson and Javier) and three with 20 or<br />

more for the first time since 1992 (Henderson, Wilson and Blankenship)…had 18 different players steal<br />

a base, matching the 1998 club for most in <strong>Oakland</strong> history…had a 57-30 record when stealing at least<br />

one base and were 24-51 in games when they did not steal a base.<br />

THE LOnG BALL: The A’s hit 109 home runs, which was second fewest in the American League<br />

(Seattle, 101) and third fewest in the majors (Houston, 108)…it was the fourth lowest total in <strong>Oakland</strong><br />

history in a non-strike season and the fewest since the 1979 club hit 108…Kevin Kouzmanoff led the<br />

A’s with 16 home runs and that was the fewest by a team leader in <strong>Oakland</strong> history…the previous low<br />

was 17 by Mitchell Page in 1978 and Dwayne Murphy and Davey Lopes in 1983…the last time the A’s<br />

team leader finished with 16 or fewer home runs was in 1967 in Kansas City when Rick Monday led the<br />

club with 14…the A’s number three hitters combined for a major league low seven home runs, which<br />

were the fewest in <strong>Oakland</strong> history.<br />

DEFEnSiVE DOinGS: The A’s ranked fifth in the American League with a .984 fielding percentage,<br />

which was the sixth best mark in <strong>Oakland</strong> history…had the fifth fewest errors in the AL (99) but the<br />

errors led to the fourth most unearned runs (60)…this marked the sixth time in the last seven years the<br />

A’s committed fewer than 100 errors…had a 52-35 record when going errorless and a 29-46 mark when<br />

making one or more errors.<br />

HOME AnD AWAY: The A’s compiled a 47-34 (.580) record in <strong>Oakland</strong> compared to 34-47 (.420) on<br />

the road…had their best home mark since 2006 but posted a losing record on the road for the fourth<br />

consecutive season…the pitching staff had a 3.02 ERA at home compared to 4.13 on the road…led the<br />

American League in ERA at home and ranked third on the road…had the lowest home ERA by an AL<br />

team since 1992 (Milwaukee, 2.74)…allowed just 62 home runs at home, which was the fewest in the<br />

AL, and 91 on the road, which tied for second most…hit .261 at home and .252 on the road…ranked<br />
