DESiGnATED HiTTERS: A’s designated hitters batted .246 with 15 home runs and 74 RBI…ranked<br />

eighth in the American League in RBI, 10 th in batting and had the second fewest home runs…led the AL<br />

with 172 strikeouts, which set an <strong>Oakland</strong> record for designated hitters, breaking the mark of 170 established<br />

in 2009…those are the most strikeouts by an AL team since Texas had 178 in 1988…also ranked<br />

third in the AL in walks (75), sixth in on-base percentage (.338) and 11 th in slugging (.386).<br />

inTERLEAGUE PLAY: The A’s went 8-10 (.444) in interleague<br />

play, their second consecutive season with a losing record<br />

against the National League (went 5-13 in 2009)…it was<br />

just the fourth time in 14 seasons of interleague play the A’s<br />

finished with a losing record…are now 70-74 (.486) against the<br />

NL since 2003 but are 136-112 (.548) all-time, which is tied for<br />

the sixth best record in the majors…ranked fourth in the majors<br />

in 2010 with a 3.34 ERA in interleague and were 11 th with a<br />

.267 batting average…hit just eight home runs, which tied for<br />

second fewest in the majors and was second fewest in <strong>Oakland</strong><br />

history (6 in 2006).<br />

WinS AnD LOSSES: The A’s had a 43-54 record against<br />

teams that were at or above .500 when the A’s played them and were 38-27 against teams that were<br />

below .500…were 68-17 when scoring four or more runs in a game and 13-64 when scoring fewer<br />

than four…posted their best record against Baltimore (7-3) and have not had a losing season against<br />

the Orioles since 1998…had their worst mark against New York (1-9) and the .100 winning percentage<br />

equaled the <strong>Athletics</strong> worst ever against the Yankees (went 2-18 in 1919)…it was their worst against<br />

any American League team since going 1-11 against Los Angeles in 1997…had a 30-27 record against<br />

the AL West, marking the first time the A’s finished with a winning record against divisional foes since<br />

2006…compiled a 73-1 record when leading after eight innings, which was the second best mark in the<br />

AL (Tampa Bay, 81-1) and fourth best in <strong>Oakland</strong> history…had a 63-27 record when scoring first and<br />

were 18-54 when the opposition scored first…were 37-16 when the starting pitcher tossed seven or more<br />

innings and 44-65 in other games…combined for a 30-22 record on Saturday and Sunday and were 51-<br />

59 during the week…were 24-28 in the first game of a series and 29-23 in the last game.<br />

ATTEnDAnCE: The A’s drew 1,418,391 fans in 2010, which was second fewest in the Major Leagues<br />

ahead of Cleveland (1,394,812)…it was an increase of 9,608 over their total from 2009, ending a streak<br />

of six consecutive seasons with a decrease in attendance…averaged 17,511 per game and were one<br />

of four teams to average fewer than 20,000 (Cleveland, Florida, Pittsburgh)…had two sellouts, both<br />

against San Francisco…drew 2,407,313 on the road, which was fourth best in the American League.<br />
