CAREER<br />

2009—Began the season on the disabled list as he continued his recovery from “Tommy John” surgery…was<br />

assigned to the A’s affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League for a rehab assignment July 5<br />

and started seven games…was 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA and did not pitch more than 2.0 innings in any of<br />

his appearances…struck out 16 and walked four in 11.2 innings and did not allow a home run…issued<br />

four wild pitches…allowed a .279 opponents batting average, which included a .185 mark against righthanded<br />

hitters and .438 against left-handers…opponents hit .182 with the bases empty and .333 with<br />

runners in scoring position…began his rehab assignment July 5 at the Dodgers affiliate and tossed 2.0<br />

innings…allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out three in his first appearance since April<br />

24, 2008…made another start July 10, tossing 2.0 shutout innings against the Brewers, before his rehab<br />

was halted…resumed pitching Aug. 9 and went 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA over his final five starts.<br />

2008—Began his first season in the A’s organization at Single-A Stockton of the California League and<br />

went 2-2 with a 5.87 ERA in five starts before he was placed on the disabled list May 2 with a strained<br />

right elbow…underwent elbow ligament replacement surgery later that month and missed the remainder<br />

of the season…struck out 26 in 23.0 innings, an average of 10.17 strikeouts per nine innings…<br />

allowed a .309 opponents batting average, including .245 against right-handed hitters and .378 against<br />

left-handers…opponents hit .238 when leading off an inning…lost each of his first two starts, including<br />

April 8 against Bakersfield when he struck out a season high seven in 5.0 innings…matched his high in<br />

strikeouts in his next start April 13 at Modesto and allowed two runs in 5.0 innings for the win…was the<br />

winning pitcher in his final start April 24 against San Jose (5.0 ip, 7 h, 2 r, 1 er, 1 bb, 4 so).<br />

2007—Spent most of the season at Single-A Kannapolis and was named the South Atlantic League Most<br />

Outstanding Major League Prospect after going 9-4 with a 2.40 ERA and 121 strikeouts in 21 games,<br />

15 starts…was promoted to Single-A Winston-Salem of the Carolina League Aug. 7 and went 1-1 with<br />

a 3.65 ERA in five starts…combined for a 10-5 record and a 2.65 ERA in 26 games, 20 starts, overall…<br />

struck out 153 in 122.1 innings, an average of 11.26 per nine innings…allowed a .163 opponents batting<br />

average, which included a .167 mark against right-handed hitters and .158 against left-handers…<br />

opponents hit .175 when leading off an inning and .176 with runners in scoring position…tied for sixth<br />

among all Single-A pitchers in strikeouts…was second in the White Sox farm system in ERA, third in<br />

strikeouts and fourth in wins…led Kannapolis in strikeouts and tied for the team lead in wins…was<br />

named to the SAL Midseason All-Star team…Baseball America named him to their Low Class A All-<br />

Star Team and as the third best prospect in the SAL…compiled a 0.87 ERA in five games, three starts, in<br />

April…did not allow a home run over the first two months of the season (47.2 ip)…tossed seven scoreless<br />

innings May 22 to defeat Hickory and left the game with a no-hitter…had three 10-strikeout games<br />

over a six-start stretch from June 8 to July 13 (49 so in 35.0 ip)…including a season high 14 against<br />

Greensboro June 29…played for the World Team in the All-Star Futures Game at San Francisco (1.0 ip,<br />

1 h, 1 r, 1 er, 1 bb, 2 so, 1 hr)…was promoted to Winston-Salem Aug. 7…struck out 10 in 6.0 innings<br />

Sept. 1 at Frederick…was traded to <strong>Oakland</strong> in the Nick Swisher deal January 3, 2008 and was named<br />

the A’s fourth best prospect by Baseball America.<br />

2006—Made his professional debut with the White Sox affiliate in the Dominican Summer League and<br />

posted a 3-3 record and a 1.86 ERA in 10 games, nine starts…struck out 61 in 48.1 innings (11.4 per<br />

nine innings) and walked just 10…did not allow a home run…yielded a .232 opponents batting average,<br />

including .215 against right-handed hitters and .283 against lefties…his opponents average dropped to<br />

.164 with runners in scoring position…recorded his first professional win June 29 against the Royals<br />

(6.0 ip, 3 h, 2 r, 1 er, 2 bb, 7 so)…struck out 10 July 5 and July 22, both times against the Marlins.<br />
