• In the prevention of diabetes-related complications, vascular<br />

protection (using a multifaceted, comprehensive<br />

approach to risk reduction) is the first priority, followed<br />

by control of hypertension in those whose blood pressure<br />

(BP) levels remain above target, then nephroprotection<br />

for those with proteinuria despite the above<br />
