individual packages. Yet, an agreement on specific <strong>interior</strong> architectural domain<br />
s<strong>of</strong>tware has not been established. As a result, every company whe<strong>the</strong>r develops a<br />
new s<strong>of</strong>tware package from scratch and/or customizes a general purpose CAAD<br />
s<strong>of</strong>tware by integrating plug-ins to <strong>the</strong>m (Eastman, 1999). Thus, <strong>the</strong>re are plenty <strong>of</strong><br />
s<strong>of</strong>tware packages that are seemingly causing a chaos in <strong>interior</strong> architectural<br />
practice.<br />
Although various domain specific s<strong>of</strong>tware packages are utilized in practice, none<br />
seems to be extensively utilized in education. The students are still using general<br />
purpose or architectural s<strong>of</strong>tware while developing <strong>the</strong>ir projects. Fur<strong>the</strong>rmore,<br />
students who are learning to use general purpose s<strong>of</strong>tware <strong>of</strong>ten have difficulties<br />
when <strong>the</strong>y begin working in such companies.<br />
This <strong>the</strong>sis presents an <strong>analysis</strong> <strong>of</strong> CAAD s<strong>of</strong>tware used in <strong>interior</strong> architectural<br />
education and practice, studying <strong>the</strong> adequate and inadequate aspects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
commonly used CAAD s<strong>of</strong>tware. Based on <strong>the</strong>se analyses, it is aimed to propose a<br />
model for establishing domain specific s<strong>of</strong>tware for <strong>interior</strong> architectural design<br />
purposes.<br />
1.3 Context and Structure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Thesis<br />
This <strong>the</strong>sis comprises a <strong>critical</strong> <strong>analysis</strong> <strong>of</strong> commonly used s<strong>of</strong>tware in <strong>interior</strong><br />
architecture and establishes a model that combines <strong>the</strong> adequate aspects <strong>of</strong> general<br />
purpose and domain specific s<strong>of</strong>tware, along with user needs ga<strong>the</strong>red from<br />
questionnaire and interview <strong>analysis</strong>.<br />
