This study consists <strong>of</strong> five chapters and fur<strong>the</strong>r chapters <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>sis are organized as<br />

follows:<br />

In <strong>the</strong> second chapter, entitled “Computer Aided Architectural Design”, overall<br />

information about CAAD is given. First, <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> CAAD parallel to <strong>the</strong><br />

development <strong>of</strong> computers is represented. Here, CAAD s<strong>of</strong>tware are classified as<br />

general purpose and domain specific. Then, <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> computers in <strong>interior</strong><br />

architectural design and how it affected <strong>the</strong> way architects and <strong>interior</strong> architects<br />

work are explained. Lastly, <strong>the</strong> CAAD s<strong>of</strong>tware used in <strong>interior</strong> architecture are<br />

discussed within <strong>the</strong> previously introduced classifications.<br />

The third chapter which is entitled as “Critical Analysis <strong>of</strong> CAAD S<strong>of</strong>tware Used in<br />

Interior Architecture” contains <strong>the</strong> <strong>analysis</strong> part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>sis and comprises <strong>of</strong> two<br />

main parts. In <strong>the</strong> first part, comparative <strong>analysis</strong> <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>tware packages are specified<br />

including detailed <strong>analysis</strong> <strong>of</strong> CAAD objects and operations used in CAAD s<strong>of</strong>tware,<br />

and <strong>analysis</strong> <strong>of</strong> features <strong>of</strong> general purpose and domain specific s<strong>of</strong>tware. General<br />

purpose CAAD s<strong>of</strong>tware that are selected and analyzed are AutoCAD 1 , 3D Studio 2<br />

MAX and ArchiCAD 3 in terms <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir being produced by <strong>the</strong> leading companies in<br />

2D drawing, 3D modeling and building information modeling (BIM), and also being<br />

<strong>the</strong> most commonly utilized packages in <strong>the</strong> world and especially in Turkey.<br />

Moreover, domain specific CAAD s<strong>of</strong>tware, such as Giotto, Arcon 4 and WebDekor 5<br />
