Dr Al Mahmoud is planning to continue her<br />

<strong>and</strong> Immunology at FMHS, experimental<br />

studies with an animal model <strong>of</strong> Experimental<br />

Autoimmune Uveitis in Galactin-3 Knockout<br />

Mice. Dr Al Mahmoud has published guidelines<br />

for Postgraduates in Residency Training.<br />

Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Saeed Al Thani completed<br />

Residency Training in Orthopaedics at the<br />

University <strong>of</strong> Toronto <strong>and</strong> was appointed Assistant<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor in July 2004. Following Fellowship<br />

training in ‘sports injuries, h<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> joint<br />

replacement surgery’ at the same institution<br />

in Toronto he rejoined the Faculty in Al Ain in<br />

January 2006 <strong>and</strong> has been able to establish a<br />

busy Sports Injuries clinic <strong>and</strong> surgical practice<br />

in Tawam Hospital.<br />

Dr Al Thani is Vice President <strong>of</strong> the AO UAE<br />

Alumni, Vice President <strong>of</strong> the National Sports<br />

<strong>Medicine</strong> Committee <strong>and</strong> currently is President<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Al Ain Orthopaedic Club.<br />

Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Ali Abbas Al Beloushi<br />

Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Ali Al Belooshi completed<br />

his Residency training in Toronto (Orthopaedic<br />

Surgery) <strong>and</strong> having been appointed as an<br />

Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor, he undertook an extended<br />

period <strong>of</strong> subspecialty Fellowship training in<br />

lower limb arthoplasty including revisional surgery<br />

<strong>and</strong> is actively participating in elective <strong>and</strong><br />

emergency clinical services at Tawam Hospital.<br />

In 2009 he took on the role <strong>of</strong> Coordinator for<br />

the Junior Surgical Clerkship. A number <strong>of</strong> presentations<br />

(oral <strong>and</strong> poster) were made regarding<br />

hip arthroplasty in Al Ain, Dubai <strong>and</strong> in the<br />

USA. Dr Al Beloushi also serves as an Instructor<br />

for an AO Course for Orthopedic Trauma management.<br />

He has recently completed an MBA<br />

program with a focus in <strong>Health</strong> Sector Management<br />

(Duke University, USA). He is also the Chair<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Malpractice Committee in Orthopedic<br />

Surgery for the Dubai <strong>Health</strong> Care Authority.<br />

Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Zuhair Al Fardan<br />

Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Zuhair Al-Fardan completed<br />

Residency training in Plastic <strong>and</strong> Reconstruction<br />

Surgery in Toronto, <strong>and</strong> subsequently Breast<br />

Reconstruction Fellowship training including<br />

experience in microvascular surgery. Appointed<br />

Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor he returned to the Faculty<br />

in August 2008 <strong>and</strong> is actively participating<br />

in clinical services at Tawam Hospital. Dr Al-<br />

Fardan’s main research areas are wound healing<br />

<strong>and</strong> clinical outcome <strong>of</strong> reconstructive surgery.<br />

His principal clinical interests are in breast<br />

reconstructive surgery <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong> surgery. Dr<br />

Al-Fardan is a co-founder <strong>and</strong> academic <strong>of</strong>ficer<br />

for the ‘H<strong>and</strong> Surgery Club, UAE’ <strong>and</strong> co-founder<br />

<strong>of</strong> the ‘Abu Dhabi Plastic Surgery Club’. He is also<br />

an active faculty member <strong>of</strong> AO-trauma Middle<br />

East which conducts h<strong>and</strong> surgery workshops<br />

countrywide, <strong>and</strong> he is active member<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Canadian Society <strong>of</strong> Plastic Surgery. Dr<br />

Al-Fardan has also conducted workshops for<br />

injectable fillers in the GCC countries.<br />

Dr. Mohamad Al Ali<br />

Dr. Mohamad Al Ali, the most recently appointed<br />

Teaching Assistant in the Department,<br />

undertook a short term period <strong>of</strong> training in<br />

Toronto for three months in 2007 <strong>and</strong> is completing<br />

a Residency training program in Otorhinolaryngology<br />

at the Sahlgrenasks University<br />

Hospital, Sweden.<br />

A senior medical laboratory specialist, Mr Loay<br />

Lubbad took up appointment in the Department<br />

in May 2008 <strong>and</strong> is much involved, in<br />

particular, with experimental studies <strong>of</strong> smooth<br />

muscle function conducted by Dr. Fayez Hammad.<br />

Mr. Abdulla Jamal has been working for<br />

some years as Departmental Secretary <strong>and</strong>,<br />

facilitates both teaching activities in the Clerkships,<br />

workshops <strong>and</strong> various CME activities<br />

with dedicated service to a high st<strong>and</strong>ard, with<br />

assistance from Mr. Aboobacker in <strong>of</strong>fice duties.<br />

Ms Raisa Al Mansouri joined the Department<br />

as Secretary in May 2008 following secretarial<br />

duties in the Department <strong>of</strong> Mathematics at<br />

the UAE University. Ms Mansouri was actively<br />

engaged with administrative arrangements for<br />

teaching <strong>and</strong> CME activity, <strong>and</strong> this included the<br />

highly successful Trauma, Critical Care <strong>and</strong> Injury<br />

Prevention Conferences which organized by<br />

the FMHS Trauma <strong>Research</strong> Group in February<br />

2009 <strong>and</strong> February 2011. Following her transfer<br />

to FMHS administration she was succeeded in<br />

her post by Ms Khuloud Al Ghanem who joined<br />

the Department in April 2011.<br />
