The scientific program was built on controversial<br />

themes. Parallel sessions covered three main<br />

areas: Critical Care, Trauma Management, <strong>and</strong><br />

Injury Prevention. Four workshops were held<br />

�������������������������������������������<br />

����������������������������������������������<br />

Sonography <strong>of</strong> Trauma, Critical Care Ultrasound,<br />

High Frequency Ventilation, <strong>and</strong> reading a<br />

trauma chest-X-ray.<br />

����������������������������������������������<br />

North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia,<br />

New Zeal<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> the GCC countries have<br />

participated in the conference. More than 600<br />

participants attended the meeting.<br />

This International Conference provided a forum<br />

�������������������������������������������cerning<br />

trauma management <strong>and</strong> critical care as<br />

well as strategies for optimizing prevention. The<br />

meeting focused on recent advances <strong>and</strong> controversies<br />

through interaction with renowned<br />

international speakers. Issues addressed included<br />

management <strong>and</strong> critical care <strong>of</strong> trauma<br />

patients, abdominal trauma, angioembolization,<br />

<strong>and</strong> new trends in trauma research. Specific<br />

important topic sessions included psychological<br />

aspects <strong>of</strong> trauma, clinical reasoning, trauma<br />

education <strong>and</strong> training.<br />

E) <strong>Publications</strong> <strong>and</strong> Abstracts<br />

In 2011, the group has published 15 papers<br />

related to trauma in international refereed jour-<br />

������������������������������������������������<br />

improved. These papers stemmed from collaborative<br />

work with Tawam <strong>and</strong> Al-Ain Hospitals<br />

networking between the University <strong>and</strong> these<br />

two institutions. The group has presented more<br />

than fifty abstracts <strong>and</strong> oral presentations at<br />

national <strong>and</strong> international meetings in 2011. Details<br />

<strong>of</strong> these publications <strong>and</strong> presentations are<br />

also to be found in the relevant Departmental<br />

Reports (Department <strong>of</strong> Surgery, <strong>and</strong> Department<br />

<strong>of</strong> Community <strong>Medicine</strong>).<br />

1. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Abu-Zidan was the Chair <strong>of</strong> the<br />

2. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Abu-Zidan was the Guest Editor for<br />

two symposia on Critical Sonography for the<br />

Journal <strong>of</strong> Emergencies Trauma <strong>and</strong> Shock<br />

(Published in USA 2011/2012).<br />

3. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Abu-Zidan was invited to be the<br />
