Diabetes <strong>and</strong> Cardiovascular<br />
<strong>Research</strong> Priority Group<br />
Introduction<br />
The Diabetes <strong>and</strong> Cardiovascular <strong>Research</strong> Priority Group (DCRG)<br />
was established on January 27, 2002, after an initial meeting<br />
called by the Dean in the autumn <strong>of</strong> 2001. The DCRG works<br />
closely with the Al Ain Diabetes <strong>Research</strong> Group <strong>and</strong> the Emirates<br />
Diabetes Society.<br />
Aims <strong>of</strong> the Group<br />
Facilitate diabetes <strong>and</strong> cardiovascular research in the faculty.<br />
Enhance the clinical <strong>and</strong> basic research capabilities <strong>of</strong> established<br />
diabetes investigators.<br />
Act as a channel for research funding.<br />
Act as a resource for new faculty members <strong>and</strong> for those who<br />
may want to start research in diabetes/cardiovascular diseases.<br />
Present scientific research at national <strong>and</strong> international scientific<br />
conferences.<br />
Publish scientific research in national <strong>and</strong> international scientific<br />
journals.<br />
Cooperate <strong>and</strong> liaise with any local, national or international<br />
agency with similar research interests.<br />
Train post-doctoral, doctoral, masters <strong>and</strong> bachelors degree<br />
students.<br />
Act as a resource unit on diabetes <strong>and</strong> cardiovascular diseases.<br />
Activities<br />
International Diabetes Federation Symposium on Diabetes<br />
Education <strong>and</strong> Clinical Practice- 3 December, 2011<br />
The DCRG organized a one-day symposium on “International<br />
Diabetes Federation Symposium on Diabetes Education <strong>and</strong><br />
Clinical Practice” on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Faculty <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Medicine</strong> & <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Science</strong>s, United Arab Emirates University. The<br />
Workshop attracted more than 300 delegates across the UAE <strong>and</strong><br />
abroad In addition to local delegates, we hosted 9 international<br />
figures along with local speakers <strong>and</strong> in the field <strong>of</strong> diabetes.<br />
