Setting Persistence Options The following procedure explains how to set the persistence for a BPEL service using the SMC. ◆ To set persistence for a BPEL service: 1. In the Init Parameters area of the SMC, click ... next to the Persistence field. The Persistence Editor dialog box opens: Embedded Storage is the default persistence setting. 2. Select the Data Source Type, either: ■ In Memory — This option sets the persistence mode to transient. When you select this option, the Persistence field in the Init Parameters section of the SMC will display the value In Memory. Progress Sonic ESB Configuration and Management Guide 8.5 240
Chapter 9: Configuring BPEL Services ■ Embedded Storage — This option sets the persistence mode to persistent, using the embedded Hypersonic database. Optionally, you can specify a storage directory for the persistent processes. If you do not specify a storage directory, the default is the staging directory. The database is created as needed in the specified storage directory when the service starts. If you move or delete the database, a new database is created the next time the service starts. Existing databases in the staging directory are deleted (on service restart) when you specify a new storage location. When you select Embedded Storage, the Persistence field in the Init Parameters section of the SMC will display the value Embedded Storage. (This is the default mode.) ■ Other Database — This option sets the persistence mode to persistent, using a database other than the embedded database. When this option is selected, you must provide additional details required to connect to the database. Only Oracle and MySQL database types are supported (see Step 3). When you select this option, the Persistence field in the Init Parameters section of the SMC will display a value for the selected database type: ❑ Oracle: type=”oracle” username=”username” host=”localhost” port=”1521” ❑ MySQL: type=”mysql” name=”dbname” username=”username” host=”localhost” port=”1521” Important When using an external database, each BPEL service instance must be configured with its own database. 3. If you selected Other Database as the data source type, enter the following Database Options: ■ Database Type — Select either Oracle or MySQL ■ Database Name — Optional ■ Machine Name — Optional ■ Database Port — Optional ■ Username — Optional ■ Password — Optional Important When using an Oracle or MySQL database, you must add the JDBC driver JAR file to the container classpath (see “Adding JAR files to an ESB Container” on page 69 for instructions). 241 Progress Sonic ESB Configuration and Management Guide 8.5
