Required Academic Program for the High School<br />

<strong>YES</strong> <strong>Prep</strong> commits to preparing each student for success in college or university coursework. Therefore, the<br />

requirements for graduation from a <strong>YES</strong> <strong>Prep</strong> school include more than simply putting in “seat time” to earn<br />

credits. In order to earn a high school diploma from <strong>YES</strong> <strong>Prep</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong>, each student must fulfill the<br />

following requirements:<br />

A student must earn at least 24 credits <strong>of</strong> high school coursework, including the following minimum<br />

requirements:<br />

English<br />

Mathematics<br />

Social Studies<br />

Science<br />

World Languages<br />

Fine Arts<br />

Physical Education<br />

Health<br />

Communication<br />

Applications<br />

(Speech)<br />

4 credits, to include: English I, English II, English II, and English IV<br />

AP English Literature and/or AP English Language may be<br />

substituted for English III and IV<br />

4 credits, to include: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Pre-<br />

Calculus<br />

4 credits, to include: World Geography, World History, U.S. History,<br />

Government (1/2 credit), and Economics (1/2 credit)<br />

4 credits, to include: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and an additional<br />

science elective<br />

3 full credits in one language other than English<br />

1 full credit (2 semester-long classes)<br />

1 full credit (2 semester-long classes)<br />

1 half credit (1 semester-long class)<br />

1 half credit (1 semester-long class)<br />

High School Advanced Coursework Requirement<br />

Every <strong>YES</strong> <strong>Prep</strong> student must take and pass at least one Advanced Placement or dual-credit course for high<br />

school credit in order to be eligible to receive his/her high school diploma. Special permission from the<br />

Director <strong>of</strong> College Counseling or High School Principal is necessary to carry more than three AP courses in any<br />

one academic year.<br />

High School Assessment Requirement<br />

A student must receive passing scores on required state assessments as set forth by the State <strong>of</strong> Texas. These<br />

assessments and requirements may vary from year to year depending on a student’s entrance date in ninth<br />

grade. Please contact your school administration for more information.<br />

College Acceptance Requirement<br />

A student must both be accepted to, and commit to, at least one four-year college or university in order to be<br />

eligible for a <strong>YES</strong> <strong>Prep</strong> high school diploma.<br />
