Tenth-Grade Requirements<br />

a. Successful completion <strong>of</strong> core subject areas: Chemistry, English II, Geometry (credit required,<br />

Algebra II recommended), World Languages, World History<br />

b. Students are retained in the 10 th grade if they:<br />

i. Fail both the science and social studies TAKS test sections<br />

ii. In addition to the ninth-grade credit requirements, students must earn a full, one-year<br />

credit in the following classes prior to the beginning <strong>of</strong> the eleventh-grade school year:<br />

Chemistry<br />

English II<br />

Geometry<br />

World Languages (1 credit)<br />

iii.<br />

World History<br />

Fail to recover all necessary credits in the immediately following summer. Students will be<br />

classified as tenth-graders until pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> passing credits are <strong>of</strong>ficially received by <strong>YES</strong> <strong>Prep</strong> by<br />

the sending agency/educational organization.<br />

c. Promotional criteria involving state-administered end-<strong>of</strong>-course exams will be released later this<br />

academic year.<br />

Eleventh-Grade Requirements<br />

a. Successful completion <strong>of</strong> core subject areas: Physics, English III, Algebra II (credit required, precalculus<br />

recommended, World Languages (two full credits required), U.S. History<br />

b. Students are retained in the eleventh grade if they:<br />

i. Fail the math or reading TAKS test section<br />

ii. Fail both the science and social studies TAKS test sections<br />

iii. In addition to the ninth- and tenth-grade credit requirements, students must earn a full one<br />

year credit in the following classes prior to the beginning <strong>of</strong> the twelfth-grade school year:<br />

Algebra II<br />

English III<br />

Physics<br />

World Languages (2 credits)<br />

U.S. History<br />

iv. Fail to recover all necessary credits in the immediately following summer. Students will be<br />

classified as eleventh-graders until pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> passing credits are <strong>of</strong>ficially received by <strong>YES</strong><br />

<strong>Prep</strong> by the sending agency/educational organization.<br />

Twelfth-Grade Requirements<br />

a. Successful completion <strong>of</strong> core subject areas: English IV, Government, and Economics<br />

b. Students are retained in the twelfth grade if they:<br />

i. Have not passed any sections <strong>of</strong> Exit-Level TAKS (first administered in eleventh grade)<br />

ii. In addition to the ninth-, tenth-, and eleventh-grade credit requirements, students must<br />

earn credit in the following classes by graduation <strong>of</strong> the 12 th grade school year:<br />

• English IV (1 full credit / 2 semesters)<br />

• Pre-Calculus (1 full credit)<br />

• Government (1/2 credit)<br />

• Economics (1/2 credit)<br />

• Additional science elective (1 full credit)<br />
