The property of others is to be respected; therefore, stealing – no matter how minor – is a violation of the
Honor Code.
On all major assignments, student will include the following statement and then sign their name:
“On my honor, as a student, I have neither given nor received aid on this assignment / exam.”
Students who witness an Honor Code violation must report the action to the school administrator. Failure to
do so may result in disciplinary action. Working together, we can all create a community of learners that value
hard work, creativity, and commitment to college success. It is crucial that every member of the YES
community – students, parents, staff, and trustees – understands the importance of the YES Honor Code and
strives to maintain its integrity.
Academic Dishonesty in the Middle School
Middle school students who plagiarize papers or projects or are involved in any other form of academic
dishonesty on classwork or assignments will be subject to the following policy, although YES Prep reserves the
right to expel any student immediately from the school upon the occurrence of significant academic
dishonesty.
If the plagiarism or academic dishonesty occurred with a non-achievement-based assignment, such as
classwork or homework, a student may be given the opportunity to demonstrate mastery on another
assignment. The teacher may also consider other evidence and waive the need to complete another
assignment.
If the plagiarism or academic dishonesty occurred with an achievement-based assignment, such as a major
paper, lab, exam, or presentation, a student must be given the opportunity to demonstrate mastery through
another assignment.
Additionally, other disciplinary consequences may be issued by the school director.
Please refer to the appendix for campus-specific information on this.
Academic Dishonesty in the High School
High school students at YES Prep participate in a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum, and therefore are
held to collegiate standards when it comes to academic honesty. Colleges and universities do not tolerate
plagiarism or cheating in any scenario, and we expect YES Prep high school students to hold themselves to
standards that are beyond reproach. Students who plagiarize papers or projects or are involved in any other
form of academic dishonesty on class work or assignment will be subject to the following policy, although YES
Prep reserves the right to expel any student immediately from the school upon the occurrence of significant
academic dishonesty.
First Incident
The student(s) involved in plagiarism or academic dishonesty will
receive a grade of zero on the assignment. The school administrator
will send home written notice informing the parents of the violation
and giving parents the option of setting up a meeting between the
parents, students, and grade level teachers. The incident will be
recorded as an official disciplinary infraction, and the student may be
subject to other disciplinary action as determined by the school
