The notice shall also state that failure to timely request such a hearing constitutes a waiver <strong>of</strong> further<br />

rights in the matter.<br />

C. Appeal to Board<br />

The student or his/her parents/guardians may appeal the dean <strong>of</strong> students/school director’s<br />

decision. The appeal process is as follows:<br />

(1) Parents will notify the president or his designee <strong>of</strong> a desire to appeal within 48 hours <strong>of</strong><br />

decision<br />

(2) If the meeting with the president or his designee fails to resolve the situation the parents can<br />

request a hearing with the school board by notifying the president in writing within seven (7)<br />

calendar days <strong>of</strong> the date <strong>of</strong> receipt <strong>of</strong> the principal/school director's decision.<br />

(3) The Board will review the audio or transcribed record from the hearing before the<br />

principal/school director at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting, or at the discretion <strong>of</strong><br />

the Board, at a specially called meeting.<br />

(4) The Board will notify the student and his/her parents/guardians <strong>of</strong> its decision, in writing,<br />

within five calendar days <strong>of</strong> the hearing.<br />

Consequences will not be deferred pending the outcome <strong>of</strong> an appeal.<br />

Reporting Crimes<br />

School administrators will report crimes as required by law and contact local law enforcement when needed.<br />

Gum<br />

Students are not allowed to chew gum anytime or anywhere on campus or any school-sponsored activity.<br />

Excessive incidents <strong>of</strong> gum chewing may result in disciplinary action beyond assigning marks or demerits.<br />

Tobacco<br />

<strong>YES</strong> <strong>Prep</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> promotes and maintains a tobacco-free environment. Regardless <strong>of</strong> age, students are<br />

prohibited from smoking, using tobacco products, or having tobacco in possession at any time during the<br />

school day or at any school-sponsored activities. Students in violation <strong>of</strong> the tobacco/smoking regulation will<br />

be subject to disciplinary action.<br />

School Property<br />

All students are expected to respect and care for all property <strong>of</strong> <strong>YES</strong> <strong>Prep</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> including building<br />

facilities, desks, dry erase boards, books, restroom facilities, lockers, etc. Any student damaging or defacing<br />

school property will be required to pay for the damage or loss. Willful destruction or defacement <strong>of</strong> school<br />

property at any time is just cause for disciplinary action and may result in expulsion.<br />

At the end <strong>of</strong> each school year, all students are required to return all school-issued materials (textbooks,<br />

novels, athletics uniforms, calculators, etc.) in good condition. Students who fail to do must reimburse the<br />

school the replacement cost <strong>of</strong> these items. Failure to do so will result in the school holding all student records<br />

from release to the parent, student, or other organizations.<br />

Student Property<br />

<strong>YES</strong> <strong>Prep</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> assumes no responsibility for any loss to students’ personal property or for items<br />

such as (but not limited to) iPads, iPods, radios, cameras, cellular phones, camcorders, hand held game<br />
